Shrek 2 R4 Release
Was there a 2 disc R4 of Shrek 2?
According to Rewind this is the best release to get as the film is uncut/unaltered plus it has all the extras. I can only find a 1 discer at DVD Crave/Ezy though.

Erm... it is altered.
Firstly, a headbutt was removed so it's technically censored.
And new voice actors replace the original ones to suit British audiences (even the character who looked like Joan Rivers and was voiced by Joan Rivers.... and is actually credited as Joan Rivers in the movie, was replaced by Kate Thornton).
Sorry but Shrek 2 was most definitely altered.... and bastardised for us Brits.

I sit corrected. I didn't know/forgot that.BiscLimpkit wrote:Firstly, a headbutt was removed so it's technically censored.
That's done plenty of time in America and no one cares. It was altered by the studio/film-crew so nope bar that minor cut it's definitely not bastardised or altered in the usual sense.BiscLimpkit wrote:And new voice actors replace the original ones to suit British audiences (even the character who looked like Joan Rivers and was voiced by Joan Rivers.... and is actually credited as Joan Rivers in the movie, was replaced by Kate Thornton).

The UK cut is better. I've not even heard of some of the American choices. The recognisable voices add to the humour.
Considering I'd loose my preferred cut I'm happy to live without the head butt.

If it doesn't affect anyone (apart from Americans) then why should we care?bradavon wrote: That's done plenty of time in America and no one cares.

The fact that the studio imposed these modifications is irrelavant IMO. But if you prefer the UK version then fair enough.

The UK dub for me was rubbish - a character that looks like Joan Rivers had a completely inappropiate voice in Kate Thorton (same for Wossy as one of the Ugly Sisters) it just didnt feel right.
I'll get the 1 disc R4 then.
Also one of John Cleese's lines is changed in the UK edition, removing a British/UK gag.

I certainly didn't misquote you. I'd say the UK modifications were more studio influenced - most likely from the UK branch. For sure it's official. However it's still altered from the original director approved version.bradavon wrote:That's not what I said. I said the film crew did it so it's official, no?
Grim the R4 single disc (which appears to have been released recently) appears to be identical to the R1 single disc. My advise to you would be to go for the cheapest option.grim_tales wrote: I'll get the 1 disc R4 then.

To be fair you don't know that more than I do. It's certainly possible Fox said:BiscLimpkit wrote:I certainly didn't misquote you. "Hey Mr Director, fancy changing for the UK market?" "Sure why not!".

R4 single disc seems fine - someone on Imports Forum said its not been released yet (Paramount now have the Shrek 2 rights apparently and are releasing it in December - but Ezy/Crave state its this month?)
The original Cleese line was "The old Crusade wound playing up" and was overdubbed in the UK version with "The old hunting wound playing up"

R4 2-Disc SE for being UNCUT, in Widescreen and with all the Extras. If the DISC TWO Extras don't bother you, then any release will do, EXCEPT for any of the UK/German Versions, as they are CUT and DUBBED. The R3 HK release has also had one line changed.
