Post by EvaUnit02 »

With the Deepdiscountdvd 20% sale nearly upon I thought I'd start this thread. Brad feel free to edit this initial post when necessary. It'll most probably start on the 10th.

Keep your eyes peeled on this thread for the latest updates.

Codes from past sales that may worked:-
DVDTALK
USATODAY
NYTIMES
SUPERSALE
DVDPRICESEARCH
SUMMERSALE
YAHOO
ESPN
LATIMES

DO NOT TRY USING THEM UNTIL THE SALE HAS BEEN FORMALLY ANNOUNCED - EACH ONE ONLY WORKS ONCE PER PERSON.

I've used them once and had not problems. Excluding their sales I find DVDP cheaper though.

Why did you ask again when I told you only 30 minutes or so earlier it's USA only???

Thanks Eva for that link the first post of it is a massive FAQ.

So it's definitely started and we should get looking + comparing?

I never knew they priced matched. I don't see the point mind you if they don't include the voucher too, you may as well order from the other company.

Unless you don't care about customs you could conceivably spend £221 in the sale (£17 x 13 vouchers) :D . I doubt I'll spend more than £17 myself, just 2-3 DVDs (or up to £17).

I guess it is good value if you want to order a boxset/sets but pointless if you go for cheap items.

Well only if YOU get stung by customs, many people never get customs bills (Lukcy Sods!), but I am in the minority and every parcel I order, gets caught by customs, even some which are under the price! but you cannot argue with Royal Mail as they are Scumlords from hell. I wish I was like some people who can order 200 quids worth of stuff in one go and not get caught :(

I bet most get stung. I've been lucky (like most people) but most of the time get stung.

I can't say if I would or not any more as I never risk it.

Did you get your money back?

Not in my experiance. It's either:

* Cheaper at DVD Pacific
* About £1/£1.50 cheaper - Woopy doo £1/£1.50 cheaper.

I want to save £2-3 + to rush out and spend more on DVDs I wasn't going to buy otherwise (i.e - now).

For example:

Simpsons S6 is $33.99 at DVDP and $30.58 at DDD. Only $3.41 difference. £1.78 difference, woopy doo. That's Surface Mail at DVDP. If the postage was reasonable then fine but it's not. I reckon you have to spent LOADS in one order to make it worthwhile.

$27.54 + $6.54 comes to $33.99
$29.97 + $8.95 comes to $38.22, now minus 20% from this and you get $30.58.

Checking against others roughly the same applies. It did during the last sale too. I'm not interested in spending more than about £30 (tops) as I have more important things to spend money on (like food/bills).

Any (non-TV Show) bargains? Preferably under £10 ones?

I've just looked through 12 DVDs I'm interested in at:

CD WOW
DVD Pacific
DDD + 20% discount

And at best some are £1/£1.50 cheaper, some are more expensive still.

The Madman sale that was a proper sale (DVDs 3 times cheaper than normal), the recent CD WOW sale where DVDs are £3.99 a pop is a proper sale. This is just an excuse to sell DVDs at reasonable pricing twice a year.

It's clear minus this 20% sale time DDD are more expensive, to the UK anyway.

I've managed to find two good deals:

1. Ingmar Bergman's Fanny & Alexander - 5 Disc CC:

DVD Pacific: £25
DDD: £22 but crucially minus postage £17

It's likely from DVD Pacific customs will sting this too.

2. Planet of the Apes: Legacy Box Set:

DVD Pacific: £22
DDD: £19 but crucially minus postage £15.50

It's likely from DVD Pacific customs will sting this too.

Does anyone have the Legacy or Ultimate R1 Planet of the Apes box set?

I want to know if the New Remastered R1 DVDs look really any better compared against the UK R2 box set versions? The UK R2 were already anamorphic so they're not Remastered but for R1 they got new prints (plus DD5.1 and the longer cut for the last film).

is it just me or are their prices not much cop :? even with the 20% off the savings are negligible on most items i've looked at compared to pacific.

Saviing 1 or 2 pound is great, if you have to much cash to care about a few pound thats good for you. I want to save all I can, not throw cash away.

I bought a 50 dvd box set :) fingers crossed all the dvds are in perfect shape! for 50 quid its a bloody bargain! even with customs.
