Is it as good as they say? For such a package I've just ordered it.

I'm still getting it (as it looks like a lovely set) but the new R1 has a new transfer and DD5.1, both cuts too. There is also the UK 2 Disc SE at Sendit.com for £7.89.

The basic R1 SE from Genius Products/The Weinstein Co. looks to the a far better release honestly. I haven't seen this one, but did see Tornatore's more recent film Malena (with Monica Belucci as the title character) and that was wonderful. Tell me what you think of the film once you finally get around to watching it in 2010 (The Year We Make Contact).

The Morricone CD would be cool though, his scores are so good that they can work completely independent of the film.

Okay :D

Do you know for sure the R1 Remaster looks that much better?

DVD Beaver is down so I can't check how good the R1 is but unless the R4 is a disaster I'll be happy. I'm no videophile so am sure it will be fine for me. It has much more extras than any other release.

On paper the R1 only has DD5.1 over this and must use seamless branching as it's got both cuts on 1 disc.

There shouldn't be any conversions issues Italy also being a PAL country.
The Morricone CD would be cool though, his scores are so good that they can work completely independent of the film.
I was hoping that was the case. Very few soundtracks work outside of the confides of the film.

I don't. I was talking in terms of better extras.

The R1 Remaster is bare-bones -

The R1 Remaster looks the best but not by much and the extras swing it for me for the R4.

No dumby. :D That's the 2003 Miramax/Buena Vista release. I'm talking about the 2006 SE from Genius Products/The Weinstein Co (which I mentioned the first time around.).

Miramax/Weinstien easy mistake to make. I didn't realise R1 had had two SE's too.

To be fair it's also a very new DVD, thanks btw.

p.s - Don't call me dumby :D

WOW Nice one thanks Eva.

Agreed for the commentary and 5.1 the 2 Disc SE beats this 4 Disc SE BUT wait the 3 Disc LE is only £13 (sorry I can't remember the USD) at Amazon.com delivered. I love it when LE's are reasonable.

I've just ordered it and e-mail CD WOW to cancel my R4.

Cheers again.

p.s - Check out the set:
