Hannibal Rising - ugh

Post by EvaUnit02 »

German teaser. This looks dreadful. Let the franchise die FFS. Not even Gong Li would make this dirge worthwhile.

WTF is with him trying on the restraint mask? No logic there all.

Other than apparently it looks cool

Agreed this looks awful and only exists because Thomas Harris is selling out and they've made money. Does every movie villain need a back story? The whole point is Hannibal is just plain evil, it's that simple.

Overated films came before it, so this had no chance. Pretty pathetic if you ask me, its gonna flop hard.

I got this in an email newsletter from Borders:-

Extract from the tie-in Thomas Harris novel, which hasn't gotten crash-hot reviews.

Compared to this I'm confident they'll all be masterpieces.

SOTL is fantastic IMO and I Red Dragon is pretty good too (to all those who say it's rubbish are only comparing it against Manhunter, which is a very different film and only shares the same source material).

I couldn't stand Hannibal though.

wwell thomas harris has a new book out called hannibal rising, a precursor detailing hannibal lectors life (i think, atleast thats what i got from the synopsis) so its only logical that they have a film for it...though i always thought that Red Dragon was this as it was the first of the hannibal books...

Red Dragon doesn't show how Hannibal becomes Hannibal though I suppose and is secondary to Dolerahyde.

oh wow so mature eva...

the fact is, how many people now go into bookshops? and pay attention to the new books that are out? so imo not many people will know that there is another hannibal book. and if they do, cudos to them.

suprised you read actually, you act so immature here it really does come as a shock that you keep upto date with the literature industry...or was it jus that you read the movie news and it mentioned the book there?

That's how I found out about the book. I'm not into reading novel (for no other reason than it's not my thing).

I'd also always buy books (like anything bar clothes and car repairs) online too.

i buy books online too, except some of the time its actually not worth it, as once postage is added it works out more than buying instore. borders and waterstones are great mainly because you can pick up a book, go upstairs to the coffee place (usually starbucks or café nero) and read and drink coffee. but for example the harry potter books i just bought they are £6:99 normally and £5:59 online but add you postage costs it either brakes even or works out more.

sad though, bookshops are becoming obselete.

yeah that is true, rarely buy hardback, paperbacks suffice well enough if you take care of them.

It doesnt make you imature just because you dont read books :D some people dont want to because they are pants. When you are at school and college maybe, when your out in real life not a chance in hell. Spending massive amounts of time on a book is an awful thing to me, I would rather do anything than read a flipping book for weeks. Like watch 100 films.

Shit series anyway, I never understood the attraction at all towards Hopkins pathetic screen camp over the top idiot, about as scary as a child with a plastic knife. Manhunter is classic film making, Red Dragon is pants on the whole, the whole nutter in the prison thing is a poor film logic, and the early life is what I call going to far and no one is going to watch this crap, unless you are really desperate for films to see. I would rather watch some Adam Sandler shit than a Hanibal as a kid film.

i read at night before i go to sleep, or when i cant watch a film, e.g on the bus, between classes.

as for the hannibal series, i quite like them, they arent scary but thats not a problem, for me they arent horror. i like Hopkins as an actor, but then i like sophisticated actors who can play a psycho but a way like hannibal or spacey in se7en. i do think though that they are overhyped. but they are far better than some of the films out there.

Ohh they are fine enuff films, but yes the reaction and overated reaction to them as if they are the greatest film ever made does grate on me sadly. The reaction to hanibal was esspecially irratating to me, it made so much cash (was sold out at our local cinemas for a few weeks!) and really it was only a good film and didnt deserve all the success.

Still I really will bet that this prequel will not make cash, will get bad reviews and will be hated like Basic Instict 2 :D but what do I know, these people pay millions to make the films, surley they know when they are making a turd! surley!?

Personally I think SOTL is outstanding.

Oh and your rant about books above is hilarious in a "I'm completely ignorant and don't have a Scooby doo" what I'm talking about kind of way.

As I said I don't really read many books but am intelligent enough to know they are as fulfilling, life changing and exciting as any decent film can be. They just take longer to get through. Which tends to put me off as I rarely have enough time to watch films let alone books.

True. I prefer Hard Back though if I remember to pick up the book or know about it in time.

It's a shame Hard Backs never get re-released. I tend to put the isbn into Kelkoo and get from which is cheapest. I find Play.com are usually the best.

i was forbidden to watch SOTL as a kid by my mates mom, when i stayed ther eiasked numerous times to watch and got told "no its too scary" i was like 10, i watched it a few years later and wondered why i was forbidden to watch it. its not scary, in any kind of way. but its a good movie i agree. personally i like the end of Hannibal, its not like a typical eat the guy up cannibal movie. its somewhat funny but still good.

they arent the best films ever made, not by a long shot, but they are still good. and i'll probably watch this when tis avaliable on dvd or download.

Romero of course. It's obvious to me you're not ignorant about books.

It's pretty damn violent though if it's not scary.

Igonrant, yea whatever you say. Just becuase I hate book make me thick as pigshit. silly sod I have read hundreds of book in my time, now I havent got a second to waste on such things as they are pants compared to a film or TV show etc... I dont read for many reasons, main one it takes far, far to long and I have far better things to do that waste time reading a book for a week or more. Thats whay I dont read shit on forums when people quotefor pages and pages, I want it quick and simple and to the point, not something that goes on for weeks on end.

Speaking of SOTL, whatever happened to Jonathan Demme's talent? He made two cracking films back-to-back (SOTL and Philadelphia) and hasn't made anything worthy of note since.
Shen wrote:the fact is, how many people now go into bookshops?
I do. I congregate to Borders when I have the time (eg not having to study and/or go to work) while in the city. Browsing there is a good place to waste time between lectures and/or waiting for friends to arrive.

The environment that I'm in dictates my behaviour - i.e. more freedom on the internet.
it really does come as a shock that you keep upto date with the literature industry
I do keep up with popular fiction news, i.e. it's fun to laugh at hackneyed shit like James Patterson crime novels ("HAHA, more shit to turn into cliched Ashley Judd thrillers."). I've recently started Kouhei Kadono's "Boogiepop and Others", which is just as elaborately structured as its spin-off "Boogiepop Phantom".
...or was it jus that you read the movie news and it mentioned the book there?
I don't bother reading movie news, threads started on forums are informative enough for me.

I'd say it's major but bloody hell they're in another league.

No Romero yet again you've read something and assumed you've read it correctly. I didn't remotely say you were ignorant, show me where I did?

Geez Brad, you should know by now that Romero has a filter in his brain that interprets everything you say as "Romerojpg is shit and scum". :D
