I got this email today:

Hi Simon

Thanks for your e-mail.

I asked my supervisor to look into why you did not receive a voucher and it appears that you applied through a forum group.

Please note in the Terms and Condition listed in the link you supplied it stated:

10. Applications made via any forum/newsgroup will be deemed invalid.

So for this reason a voucher will not be issued.

My apologies for any inconvenience caused.

It has nothing to do with creepiness. Any owner of a website can check out how his users came to his website if he uses the right tools. So no matter if they clicked a link on Google, a forum, a links section of another website or even if they came through their favourites stored in their browsers, they can check it out.

Check out the opensource awstat I've used that in the pass for checking perlscript calls, its very very good.
Most of the hosting company I see for Ecommence use this now

All they do is log the referers, whenever you click a link the page you entered by is included in the HTTP headers. Some sites even use it as a method of security. It's easily blocked or faked.
In future copy/paste the url into a new window. OR we should make a policy of using a site that strips these headers.

Nice one Lourdes, But there are some sites which blacklist anonymous server. BTW just been using a wicked program called Torpark, which is a 'onion skinned' anonymous server running a special build of Firefox 1.6. Only problem is that it crashes out my Zonealarm

Anonym.to isn't a proxy, it just removes the referrer from the HTTP request.

Ohh I get a few, but some people get hundeds if not thousands with certain programmes which do it for them, basically when they get into it they close down the vouchers very quickly for others.

I wouldn't. You'd only open a can of worms and yes I guess we did (break the T&Cs, we all clicked through a Forum). I didn't notice that new one in the T&Cs.

The link is affiliated to someone (no idea who) as that's how it works but it's not the Bullets affiliate code (which is 13858).

It sounds like you're spot on Lourdes.

The simple rule seems to be special voucher codes you copy/paste the link into a new window. I suggest we add a space into such links in future when posting them forcing people to remember to copy/paste and remove the space (or underscore). It's easier than having to remember to put that link at the start.

I guess they're semi-cracking down (it would've been nice to let us know). Hey-ho moving on, it's only a voucher and it's not like we can't get others.

p.s - Thank Salty not me. I guess he found it on a forum too.

Why would CD-Wow crackdown on something that is obviously garnering them more custom than ever before? If I thought giving £2 off a product would net me extra sales that would seem the sensible thing to do wouldn't it?

And for me. I'm always more inclined to buy with an extra insentive. Virtually accusing people of being dodgy for using forum-posted vouchers does not good customer relations make.

It's up to £7.99 not £2.

Well they obviously generally do by letting all the millions of combo voucher orders go through.

I suspect when they get an influx of millions of people trying to get a voucher or more than one designed for a few people who're meant to get it they've decided to stop it.

They have had serious problems with vouchers being posted on forums. Remember these vouchers are meant for people who the deal is attached to, such as Sony where a certain amount Sony agreed to.

Technically NOT all of sundry.

Also like I said the sheer point they're on a non-related forum means technically we are being dodgy. They're not meant for us.

I don't really see the big deal. We all get £2 off ALL DVDs + £1.75 of ALL CDs + all the stacks of big vouchers in the past anyway. Losing out on 1 voucher isn't going to make me lose any sleep.
