Snapper cases - what's the big deal?

Post by EvaUnit02 »

I received a DVD in a snapper case today and I don't really what's so bad about them. Sure, it's made out of mainly cardboard, but it's pretty sturdy cardboard.

Some people are just obsessive about silly little things like that. Only packaging I have a problem with are the cases with crap retention mechanisms that cause you to force the disc out. But since I always have amarays lying around I just swap them.

It's difficult to replace snappers if they're faulty. Maybe that's one reason people don't like them.

I only own three movies that are still in snappers.

They never bothered me much... it's the jewel cases I never liked.

Damn things crack all the time, and fit poorly on your shelf alongside keep cases.

I don't like fancy packaging such as metal tins or slipcards either.

Lucky you, you've only JUST received one.

As for being sturdy no way, they fall to bits. Digi-pack when looked after is perfectly fine but snappers unless you literally never pick them up (pretty much) always fall to bits. It's because the plastic and cardboard barely hang together.

That said I personally never minded them too much, that's not to say I ever want to see Warner use them again. They're well aware how unpopular they were.

I own about a dozen snappers and don't see the point changing them just for the case.

I presume you hate CD Jewel cases too?

I have 3 or 4 of those and not one has cracked, they're all in perfect condition. I'm pleased they never took off though as they're really to big and heavy.

Did a lot of R2UK releases use snappers?

Snappers are very very rare down here, AFAIK Warner never used them for R4's.

That would be the most retarded excuse to double dip ever.

I dont mind them, but I dont want them and would prefer a amaray any day as the snappers dont hold up well in time I have maybe 200 of them and a fair few are shashed to hell, or just dont age well at all, a slight knock and they are ruined forever and you can never replace them.

But they look fine in a long row with a few hundred others :) I like the New Line ones (platium edition ones are better) as they seemed to be sturdier than Warner ones. Still nothing I can do I have to keep em and take it as a man.

ALL R1 and European R2 DVDs from Warner and New Line were Snappers from the date of DVD launch for a good few years. They finally killed them off a few years back. So yes bloody loads.

That is a weird one. I noticed that too, we got snappers you got keep-cases.

That's what I thought too :D

I've no idea why but I've found that too. It is annoying you can't replace them like keep cases.

I don't like them because they seem cheap.

Thats the reason they were used at 1st, they cost a few pennies less than an a,maray case :) now amarays cost nothing so they use em more and got rid of the scummy snappers :) I have lots of them where the silly plastci snap bits come off! they cannot be opened and shut much it seems

Absolutely nothing wrong with them, just that people on the internet love to moan about everything. Knowing your fondness for Westerns, i'm actually surprised you've never owned a R1 snapper case before! :D

Warner owned the company which made them was the main reason.

I heard it was because they were easier to display on shelves in shops :?

I don't really see how that works though...

In fact Warner did release snapper cases in region 4,in the early days of dvd. In fact i'm pretty sure when they changed over to amaray they offered an exchange programme where you could get replacement amaray covers for the snappers.
