getting back to normal

Post by Mordib »

hey all,

as far as i know ive finally got suck it, your images and quick reply up and running again. I willl be looking to add Lourdes latest anti spam idea in due course.

Now a little ask on my part, could people go through their uploaded images and delete any they have no further need for? its not urgent but we are running out of space, prior to its breakdown it was being used quite a lot. it will get to a point wher limits will have to be set, when it comes to that I will open it to discussion here so people can have their say.

They work. Any chance of making Suck It load the page properly instead of needing to refresh it?

Quick reply is no longer central though? Not that it really matters

FYI The Imports Forum has a browse button at the end of every post that uploads the image to Image Shack. It works a treat.

EDIT: I only had 2-3 images before but now they're gone??? I'm not bothered but what happened to them?

p.s - Thanks for the update.

Hey Mordib! Good to see you around.

I deleted as much as I could. The problem is that most of my uploaded pictures serve DVD comparisons.

yeah, seriously dont worry if the pics are still being linked to, its by no means a desperate situation, i just felt like a premature spring clean - i for one seem to have uploaded all sorts of pointless pictures, they are now no more :alien:

and i am still around, just lurking most of the time, my escape whenever i get a few minutes to spare

Just for reference, you can upgrade phpbb via the shell with a mod file. Means you won't have to redo most mods because it doesn't just replace files.

I'll delete any images that aren't comparisons.

I'm busy deleting spam at the moment, but I'll delete some pictures as soon as I can. :D

testing testing 1..2..3 finally figured out this one...! on a side note i wasnt too sure about the authorisation thing when it was first suggested but figured giving it a try couldnt hurt and whaddya know, its worked a treat so far, we've identified valid new members and removed a lot of new spam signups. my thanks to everyone involved :)

on a sadder note, i may be disappearing for a few days, my uncle passed away a couple of days ago. since then ive been putting things in order before I head out to do my turn looking after my grandparents who are understandably not in a good way.

I have been most impressed with how well everyones been behaving and working together/getting along of late on BnB, whilst im away i hope it stays that way. prisoners, try not to tease the guards too much, guards, rememebr this is a virtual democracy, no martial law no making the world a better place without opening it up tothe floor. ;)

I have asked a friend to check in now and again make sure the site is still running in a website/technical sense. I hope to be back soon, till then stay well and thanks for making BnB what it is :)

You have my condolences, best wishes to your family at this sad time.

Really sorry to hear that mate. A close friend of mine died a few years back, it really sucks.

As for the new user authorisation all credit for that needs to go to Tom. It's working rather well. The odd account it's been a bit tricky to work out if they're spam or legit but generally speaking it's obvious. We've even had another DVD Times or DVD Forums mod sign up (no posts yet)

We've had about a dozen spam accounts trying to be created and as proven by no spam on site we're pleased to say we're beating the spammer!

thanks for all your comments :)

back to the business in hand, no new search for now though i do recognise it is crap. its on the list 'when something suitable comes along...'

some good news though, ive finally managed to kill google bot, so we can finally go an entire month without the site breaking at the end. for all its zillion checks a day we never seemed to get onto the listings in any meaningful form.

Sounds good. Most people sign up through "word of mouth" anyway.
