Play.com really are total utter morons! Lie, Cheat, Ignore..

Post by romerojpg »

Well I have been going thru a situation with them for 2 months now, and they lie, ignore contact and just basically make up crap!

Heres the basic story.

I bought a £70 box set a while back in December, it came and it was not what they had on the site. I emailed them and asked for a replacement of the thing I actually ordered.

over a month later the got back to me! and said we will pick it up thru Parcelforce and asked me to give them a date to pick it up, I did and then waited for them to get back to me.

They got back in a week or so and said the dates I had given them were not possible, so gave them more, they got back again etc.. a week later! this went on 4 times! basically each time the date I give them (dates as I was giving them many days!) was not possible!

So in the end a few weeks back it got to some of the days I asked for pickup and nothing once again, checked my emails one night and lo and behold! they had sent me an email at 9 in the morning! the DAY OF PICKUP! Saying they were coming from 9-5

Obviously I was fuming at them waiting till the day of pickup to send a confirmation email!

But that not the sucker punch! NO ONE EVEN TURNED UP! There was someone in the house all day and hell not one person came to collect anything, they lied! Blatantly.

So once again I emailed them and complained, that was a few weeks ago now and its obvious they are not going to even bother contacting me at all now, they have my email, my home address and phone number and have been taking the pee.

I have just sent my final contact over the net and got stuck into them complete idiots. Demanded my cash back and asked them to give me there return address as its obvious Parcelforce will not do anything except lie, I will send it back by Royal Mail and want my cash back from Play.com.

I have been a customer with Play for 8 years, before they were on the net even!

This is a joke, so are play scumlords.

If anyone has a contact email addy for someone at Play.com please tell me as I am going to take a chunk out of there heads, as its obvious they don’t want me to know it.

NO I will not phone them, as that costs me cash and I will just get angry and tell them where to go.

I bought it on the net, I want it sorted on the net.

Yeah, when I had a faulty boxed set to send back to Play USA, I phoned them and it was no problem. I had to pay to post it to them, but then they refunded the postage costs.

You know what sort of online shopping cover you have from your credit card Romero? Just wondering if they can lean on Play a bit.

As Salty says just pick up the phone and stop being a tight git or send them a letter. So what it costs you a few pennies to call them, it will sort it out quicker.

You really need to stop being such a penny pincher IMO.

I also assume you're not especially polite in your replies when a company has cocked up? I just get the feeling you're a wee bit rude so they ignore you.

Also this demanding is just making you angry and delaying their responce. If you demand things and be rude or short they'll just put your complaint to the end of the pile. Would you respond to someone who is rude?

I say always be 100% polite no matter what. State your case but always be polite and professional.

Agreed they should turn up when they say they do but to be honest you're making it way worse by not calling them. E-mails are only good for so much, it would've been sorted weeks ago if you called them. It's easy to get crossed wires, misunderstandings and general delays over e-mail.

I've only had to return something once but it went without a problem. I gave them a call and it was all sorted in under 5 minutes.

I would use the Phone under the circumstances. Just get it sorted. Speaking to someone in person nearly always helps. If you can afford £70 for a box set you can afford a phone call to Jersey.

Hey your talking like phone calls cost pennies, they dont. I recently got a phone bill from the calls made to AOL when I had troubles, cost me £16 thats not pennies  I waited ages to phone them until it was the last resort, I HATE phonong companies, you shouldnt have to ever.

anyway
After yesterdays very angry email that I sent them, they got back to me today! isnt that just great, all the emails they have been ignoring and I send a really nasty one and they get back to me the next day, that says it all, they dont care unless your really peed off and want blood.

Will be sending it back Royal Mail, next week sometime and really I just get sick of this hard work to get good service. They should be offering me vouchers, freebies etc.. but no the emails simple, just says return the item.

Nice.

and as far as being nice I am always nice, but after 8 emails they IGNORED and a bumch of lies in other emails they sent me it shows they are total morons, the fact I sent one nasty email and they got back to me within 16 hours shows you they dont give a shit, unless you take a shitty tone.

My card I use isnt a credit card sadly, I just hate the idea of owning one :) only ever been ripped off once online by DVDSOON, apart from that I have had trouble free shopping, apart from situations like this with Play where they mess you about :)

Phone calls don't have to cost anything. I use this site when I have to phone Sky or somebody. Brings the price down, plus if you have some sort of package with your phone company, you don't have to pay anything. Result! :D
'Course, not every company's in there, but it's building up. Try it out. :)

Fair point but AOL Tech Support cannot be compared to Play's customer service line. Tech Support numbers are known for giving out expensive premium rate numbers. Isn't Play's an 0845 number? So yes pennies.

Besides for all this agro a quick phone call would probably sort it out. Maybe you shouldn't have to call companies but the reality is sometimes you do, like I said e-mails can easily cause crossed wires.

I agree with what Mark and Kurgan said (i.e - 0870).

A: Debit cards also offer some form of protection. It's nowhere near as good though.
B: A credit card is AS safe as a debit card if you control it, the trouble is most people let it control them. No one is forcing you to use the credit it gives.

I've owned a credit card for 10+ years and have only once gone into debt with it. It's was a deliberate decision as at the time (I was travelling) I needed the cash (I didn't take enough cash with me). As soon as I got back I transferred it to an interest free account and paid it off in 3 months.

Bar that I've never let it control me but find it very useful for the extra protection it gives me, which honestly it does. Anything over £100 I put it straight on my credit card BUT immediately pay it off so effectively it's a debit card with the extra protection.

I do this all online so just easily transfer money from A to B. I never bother to wait for my paper statement. In fact I've cancelled it.

Seeing as you're such a penny pincher ;) and wouldn't let yourself get into debt give one a go.

I don't see why Play couldn't have sorted out Romero's problems swiftly through E-mail communication, this is the year 2007 afterall! Besides, it's not like most of us haven't had to arrange DVD replacements with R1 etailers before and that is usually all sorted out via email! AFAIC Romero's not being unreasonable sticking to Email only here.

As Brad mentioned ISP Technical Support phonelines (well, the ones that can give proper PC support) are usually premium rates. Most are at least 50p a minute. I don't think there's a DVDetailer customer support line that's anywhere near this expensive.

Personally, I prefer phonecalls over emailing a company. In a phonecall, I can get to the point a lot quicker, plus any questions on either part is dealt with on the spot. I've called play.com a few times now and everytime I was more then pleased with their politeness and good service.
Also had to call other companies to sort small stuff out (like a magazine not arriving, and the like)

Plus, I really HATE emailing. I mean, I always put it off till the last moment. Some people like to keep in touch through email, but I seem to lose those people as contactpersons, cause it takes me a while to get back to them :)
I'm really more of a face-to-face person, and if that isnt possible, perhaps a call or chatting... (I want direct feedback I guess)

Anyway, strange to hear play.com messing up with your problem, Romero. They're knwon for always having pretty good service. I've always been very satisfied with them. I agree with the others that you should just call them up, stay civil and polite, and just explain the situation...
I dont know how your tone was in your emails though... so maybe if that was too bad, they will be perfectly ok about losing you as a costumer ;)

I prefer e-mailing myself, but if something isn't getting sorted you may have to phone. It's just the way it is. The people dealing with the phones aren't the ones dealing with the e-mails, so you may get a better response (and are at least guranteed a human response). My Dad uses a CC which is why he managed to get back (eventually) what DVD Soon ripped from him. Are those barstools still in business?

DVDSOON are gone, well everyone thinks :D I still have them bookmarked and check one in while :D

Says this at the moment

"You are seeing this page because the current DNS service has expired" :D

Still The problems with AOL I have had over the last 4 months are the biggest thing I have ever had to deal with, your not allowed to email them, nor even complain by phone! (I tried both many times!) you have to write a letter, now thats a killer :D I have soo much confusing stuff to put into it, its really going to be massive and too complex to word correctly. Its going to be the War and peach of complaint letters.

AOL sucks, we use aol, but not for much longer, going to SKY. and i agree trying to complain to them or get anything done about your service is impossible.

Thats putting it mildy now they use Indian call centres, the service was the worst I have ever had in my life, they hung up on me many times and told me where to go also! So many times they were less than pathetic. But as you cannot complain by email or phone, theres little you can do about it

why stick with them romero? they are overpriced and their service sucks, we just got offered sky broadband, tv and phone for £26 a month, thats £6 more than we pay on aol for itnernet alone! so we're picking up that, the speed is faster, and sofar with using sky tv and phone the customer service is pretty good...and then there is all the other companies out there that a 1000x better than AOL. tho carphone warehouse/talk talk (one of the two) are taking them over, but i doubt the service will b better...

Go sodomise your male friends Mr Bean :thefinger: ........... Hard.

and Shen I dont want to stick with them, I am moving to another provider when it comes up, the whole lot of them are going thru a speed up and lower price fight, was waiting till someone came out on top, but its not going as fast as I wanted.

Sorry to hijack Romero's thread, but a week ago I ordered PA Musa from Play (2 discs) for £7.99 - it hasnt shipped yet (it's OOS) but when I do a site search the price is now £14.99. Will I still be charged £7.99? :)

Indian or British call centres, the location makes no difference as there is equal chance your going to speak to some poor untrained, underpaid soul who does not have the desire or knowledge to deal with your enquiry.
