My Fancy New Online DVD Collection - Check it out...

Post by thelostdragon »

Hey,

that's a quite promising way to show your online collection. Way better than DVD Profiler. All you do is to export your DVD Collection from DVD Profiler and upload it to your webspace. Add a MySQL database and you're done. Che4ck it out:

http://www.asia-on-dvd.com/dvdprofiler/index.php

Will add more images as soon as I get the time. The headshots for cast & crew looks also cool.

Someone has way too many movies for any one person to watch. I think you should do the right thing and give a few of them to me... you know to ease the burden. :D

I remember the days when I had 1,000+ DVD's.

Those days sucked. Just the chore of finding shelving space and organzing the collection was a huge undertaking.

Of course, it's really nice having all those movies, but the logistics of owning that many DVD's are insane. :D

You're so right about that. Any idea what I could do about it apart from selling my DVDs?

I know many people with collections the size of yours keep them in large CD binders.

But then, that begs the question; what do you do with the cases? :D

My advice, sell off the stuff that your not really fond of or don't think you'd watch that much. You'd be amazed how easily your collection will shrink. ;)

selling is good. I've sold 20 dvds this year already.

My personal policy is:
a) the movie is great, I have lots of love for it and it stays in the collection
b) the movie is a part of a sub collection (Jackie Chan, Shunji Iwai, good 60's and 70's japanese exploitation films etc.) and may stay in the collection despite the quality
c) extras are unique (special cases only) and the dvd stays in the collection
d) the dvd is already for sale 8)

No reason to keep something you're not passionate about. Every dvd needs to earn its place in your collection. And you have to be proud of every dvd you own. If you're not, then you should to get rid of it.

My respect to a persons dvd collection relates to the amount of dvds sold / gotten rid of, not to the amount owned. A large number of dvds sold is usually a sign of quality standards and self discipline.

Wow that's a lot of DVDs. I think I've got too many! I'm thinking of selling off some of the ones I never watch or just don't want anymore.

Yes, The Matrix Reloaded is a great example of one with quality standards. ;)

Wait software did you use to make that? It's mighty impressive. I use DVD Profiler like most I suspect but that's better.

Just wait until Romero joins this thread :D

I have almost 600 now. I see no harm continuing. I'd only slow down if I was running out of room or it got silly that I had to dedicated wall space (instead of shelf) space to it.

Wait software? Al Quada? You'd rather being thinking...? Brad, are you drunk again? :D

I use DVD Profiler as well. You just have to upload the phpMyProfiler software to a webspace that supports PHP and you also need a new and fresh MySQL databse. Export your DVD database as an XML-file, upload it and after setting your database, you're done.
