Tom interesting you have your 7.1 configured differently to how my manual recommends I should set mine up but then again my amp doesn't support ES or EX. Doesn't it sound odd? As you have 1 front centre but 2 rear centres + far more speakers behind you than in front.
DD5.1 is also backwards compatible (back to mono) and takes less space which are the two main reasons it's used far more than DTS. AFAIK there is no real reason DTS can't be backwards compatible.

Another reason why DD is popular is cuz you can have anywhere from 1-5 channels (+ .LFE of course) - the 6th channel on DD-EX tracks is just matrixed. With DTS one can only have a minimum of 5-channels.bradavon wrote:DD5.1 is also backwards compatible (back to mono) and takes less space which are the two main reasons it's used far more than DTS. 7.1 sound is generally...
2 front
1 front center
2 rears-back
2 rears-side
plus .1
Though there are no sound options for it yet, it supposedly gives a better diffusion of the rear centre speaker in DD EX or DTS ES.
That's right, DTS offers 6 seperate channels. Not matrixed
Of course a 7.1 amp/processor usually has a lot of DSP modes to utilize all these speakers differently... like adding left-rear-side to left-rear-back for a smooth transition or something...
