Is this out in Europe/New Zealand yet?

Normally I wouldn't bring up such a film but I was dragged to see it while in Thailand by the (female) friend I was with. I surprisingly enjoyed it. I did have VERY low expectations mind you. Drew and Hugh do have good chemistry.

It has a few funny scenes where I did laugh out loud and it's generally sugar coated fun. I won't be buying the DVD though.

I've seen worse Hugh Grant vehicles, namely 'Two Weeks Notice'. Hugh Grant is a better actor than the "doing it for the money" films he often makes. As far as I can tell he's never made a decent American film. His best work is About a Boy, Notting Hill and Four Weddings and a Funeral.

The Thai censors annoyingly pixelated 3 scenes.

For those who have seen it I have a question please:

The second was during the pop singer showing Hugh and Drew what she will do with the song and I understand a Buddha statue was pixelated, the last I understand a Buddha statue is on stage during the finale (particularly annoying as it's huge and almost ruins the entire scene).

But the first I've not been able to find out. It's during the first time Hugh and his manager meet the female pop singer and the male dancers shirts are pixelated. I presume because some offensive (to the Thai censors) words were written on it.

Any ideas? Thanks

It's been and probably gone over here. I wouldn't bother with it, rarely is there ever a good Hugh Grant vehicle without the Richard Curtis name attached (About a Boy being the exception).

I feel no shame when I say that Richard Curtis films are a guilty pleasure of mine. I've thoroughly enjoyed almost every film that I've seen that's had his involvement, except the ghastly Bridget Jones 2.

It's acceptable to censor the media but Thailand's infamous red light district we'll turn a blind eye too, why? It brings in stacks of cash.

And: "while in other productions like 'Music and Lyrics', a romantic comedy still in theatres, the image of a large Buddha set behind scenes of song and dance is merely blurred."

What do you care? You don't live in Thailand. It's Piracyland over there anyway, a resident could probably easily get the uncensored version if they really wanted to. Developing nation = piracy FTW.

I have to admit I like Hugh Grant's dry sense of humour... but can't say I like his films much. Except EXTREME MEASURES, but that was a Hitchcockian thriller and had Gene Hackman in it.

What do you care? You don't live in Thailand. It's Piracyland over there anyway, a resident could probably easily get the uncensored version if they really wanted to. Developing nation = piracy FTW.

Oh it's easy to get an uncut print as the authorities completely turn a blind eye (Thailand may as well not have copyright laws) but that would mean some dodgy VCD, so not a comparison for me to paying for the cinema.

As to why do I care?

Well as you should know by now (;)) Thailand's my second home, even if I fully understand compared to Western countries it's very stuck in the Victorian age in some ways. Overall I love it and have been at least half a dozen times over the last 6 years.

I tend to view Thailand differently from other countries in South East Asia. Visiting Thailand 6 years ago was not only the first time I'd been away without my parents (it seems so long ago now) but also the first Asian country I'd visited, actually first country as an adult outside of Europe.

It will always be special to me. Although I did particularly love Japan and will be going back their next year.
