Nope the regional coding is completely different. Clearly you didn't know as Australian DVDs are region 4 versus Europe/Japanese region 2 anyway.

As you can see above Region C for us is pointless but annoyingly Europe & Australia is different from America, Canada, Hong Kong Japan and South Korea which are the same.

I just know with 100% assurance I'll want Asian, American and UK BDs. Until MR comes out this will be tricky.

I did here however that the Samsung BD Player can be made MR and even re-entered after a firmware upgrade. I don't know what the combination is though. It's over at The Imports Forum somewhere.

On a related note, AnyDVD is awesome, it's like the only DVD region free that works on my temperamental Pioneer DVD burner. I think that I may give them my coin at some point, good that they offer life-time upgrades.

Yeah and no one has come forward and confirmed it as Multi Region, so its bollocks if you ask me, total 100% shit. If it was true, it would be on every forum, its not, so it has to be bull surley?

What format are you talking about? Your post is pretty nonsensical. HD-DVD currently has no region-encoding implemented, this has been proven by hundreds of people.

How what are you talking about? Obviously Samsung aren't going to say if there is a MR hack (like there is for the Samsung BD Player) and as it's not been released yet no one is able to test any MR hack so until it's released it's a moot point.

Unless you've heard rumours it will be MR? I'd love it to be MR but I've waited so long the fact it can play HD-DVD and BD flawlessly (it's looking likely) is enough for me to dip in.

Personally I reckon they will at some point but as it's a Sales edge and both formats sell so few copies it wouldn't make sense to add it. I'm surprised BD has MR really.

Agreed AnyDVD is awesome.

It's by far the best of any of it's ilk, far beter than DVD Region Free or DVD Decrypter (which I stopped using eons ago). I use DVD Shrink now and fire up AnyDVD as it has even better removal functionality than DVD Shrink.

My brother uses it so he can play non-R2 DVDs on his laptop. His DVD Writer should be MR by Firmware but recently (I don't know why) it's stopped working.

I've never used DVD Decrypter, I thought it was just a ripper program since people use it in conjunction with DVDshrink, so I never bothered.

Anyway DVD Region Free+CSS, DVD Region Killer and DVD43 (43 didn't work altogether in XP x64 and kept crashing XP 32) don't work with my Pioneer burner (Pioneer drives have a reputation for being able to defeat RPC2 emulation programs like these), but AnyDVD does, that's all that matters. AnyDVD HD being able to bypass HDCP is awesome too, won't stop me from getting an HDCP-certified DX10 video card in a few months though.

DVD Decrypter was back in the day the Number 1 tool for removing encryption. It can copy DVDs but only if they're DVD-5s. You can use it in conjuction with DVD Shrink to remove all the encryption first. It can do a better job than DVD Shrink at this. Hence why people used it.

I've not used DVD43 but DVD Region Free+CSS and DVD Region Killer are pants in comparison to AnyDVD (or at least were). Slysoft never seem to stop releasing updates for AnyDVD too. That and as you say it also offers HD-DVD and BD support.

I prefer the firmware route though if it's possible: www.rpc1.org.

Which offers firmware with the MR removed. I only now use it when I first get a drive as it stuffed one of my DVD Writers a while back. You need to be cautious with this route.

Don't you know that the firmware route is no good on it's own if you want to playback DVDs (which I require for screen cap taking)? You have to use RPC2 emulation programs too.

I bought my DVD burner cuz it's like the most flashable drive ever and is great for backups. By crossflashing it I made it RPC1; got RipLock disabled; added auto-bitsetting (automatically sets the DVD+ book type to DVD-ROM); added DiscT82 and Labelflash capabilities (competiting technology to Lightscribe). (If you don't understand the jargon, then look it up for a change instead of asking. Just a google search away.)

No its not nonsensical at all it was a comment on Bradavons Multiregion stuff obviously

As for BD MR that's my mistake I got my wires crossed it seems. You can make the Samsung BD Player DVD MR but not BD MR.

Bollocks. I play back dvd's all the time in my RPC1 modified DVD-RW. No need for extra software...

As far as I know... WRONG! You could flash the 1st Gen Samsung BDP's with firmware from wherever, and reflash from wherever. Sure not true MR - but, insert CD with RA firmware, play movie, insert CD with RB firmware, play movie.

I'm not sure if this has been fixed in the latest firmware relases though.

Eva is right now I think about it.

I have removed the regional check from both my DVD Writers making them RPC-1 (just confirmed using both driveinfo22 and DISCInfo) but I still from time to time get the "Choose your region, you have 5 counts left" count down window.

This is the Windows one kicking in. I've only ever used MPC to play DVDs (I don't play DVDs on my PC unless I'm capturing) and that has no regional check (the third check) AFAIK.

I always click cancel as soon as that "Choose your region, you have 5 counts left" count down window appears. I don't want to risk locking it somehow.

AnyDVD fixes this and tbh it's worth using anyway as it removes so many different types of protection, and even supports BD/HD-DVD now too. DVD Region+CSS Free also looks good but has no BD/HD-DVD support and seems to get updated less.

It would explain why my brother still needs to use AnyDVD too when playing a non-R2 DVD.

As I said I always flash the firmware in my DVD Writers when I first get them to make them RPC-1. I used to update them as and when new firmware was released and RPC1.org hacked them but since screwing a DVD Writer I only now do this the once.

I knew about that but IMO that doesn't remotely count considering the risks involved with flashing firmware. You can do many things with firmware if you try hard enough it doesn't mean they're worth thinking about.

I believed it has been fixed and only works with the first generation firmware.

Actually DVD Region+CSS Free is currently dead AFAIK. Elby's DVD Region Killer is also dead (was made redundant by SlySoft's AnyDVD, the two companies have very close ties if you didn't realise. Sly distributes Elby's CloneDVD and CloneCD since it's illegal for Elby to do so in their own country. I think this is the very same reason why DVD Region+CSS Free died, but don't quote me on that.)

Thanks. I presumed Slysoft bought Elby. CloneDVD is decent, it and DVD Shrink are the best.

Slysoft is based in Ireland I'm surprised they've not been shut down too.

It won't look or sound as good as the proper HD-DVD coming in France anyway. Isn't it plain old DD5.1? It will be compressed to shit too.

The USA got T2 on BD but I believe it's an early single layer + pcm release so doesn't look much better than the DVD. The HD-DVD (now 2 discs with both cuts) which is also getting DTS-HD Master Audio, should rock.

Yes but it still looks 10 times better than DVD and I dont need to spend hundreds of pounds on players and new dvds

I watched the trailer for it and that alone looks staggering, not compressed at all.

Compared to the HD dvds I am sure it is lacking, but compared to the standard dvd its miles ahead

and I own it already and honestly I dont give a shit about DTS as I aint got amazing sound set up from my PC into my amp anyway.

I was referring to PCM Uncompressed, DTS-HD Master Audio (as in T2 French) or Dolby True-HD. ALL HD discs them being HD-DVD or BD have the equivalent (or better) of DTS as standard.

DTS is old hat in the HD world

Fair enough I guess if it's easy and you can try now. I'm not sure how watchable it is fed from a PC, which IMO has always been way overrated as a movie player. I've never even bothered to install DVD software, I don't see the point.

If it's the R1 you got you need to find an open web proxy in the United States that is not blocked from the Windows Licensing agent... once found, setup your computers internet connection to use that specific web proxy for all internet traffic and load the movie.

It's IP based, they've built a large database with "all" IP ranges in the world and registered which country they belong to. How that will work with Mobile IP I don't know
