Favourite tipple?
The booze thread got me thinking. What's everyone's favourite drink (alcoholic and/or non-alcoholic)? I quite like:
Guiness, preferably extra cold. When you examine it, it is an item of sheer beauty. The perfect contrast of black and white. The outline of a shamrock by a skilled barman/maid. The lovely coffee-ish aftertaste. Plus it has less calories than lager (not that I care). I don't buy that 119s to pour the perfect pint nonsense - just gimme a guiness already!
Not tried Guiness red yet.
Also like a few JD & cokes but can't drink too much of that without rotting my teeth.
Also, can someone tell me if Magners has any dodgy ingredients like aspartame or something?
As for non alcoholic - gimme a load of that green tea (or ganja tea as we like to call it). I go through an extreme amount of the ganje every day.

Alcoholic - Guinness. Depending on how I feel and the weather I vary between extra-cold and regular. Sometimes the extra cold is just too cold which makes it harder to drink, but it can be a lot more refreshing on a warm sunny day.
Also vodka and coke. Iron Brew WKD and there are some shots that are pretty nice too. Butterscotch schnapps and things like that (dooleys etc).
Non alcoholic: Irn-Bru... obviously! Although I was horrified to discover something to do with Irn Bru. When I came back from travelling I hadn't had Irn-Bru for quite a long time, and I was short on money. In Asda I could get a 2l bottle for about a quid something, or 3 Asda Iron Brew's for a quid. So I thought I'd try both. I did a taste test on them. Got my girlf to put one in one glass and the other in another and not let me know which was which. I couldn't tell the difference. I've had some crap Irn Bru knock offs before, but to discover this was soul shattering. Irn Bru being THE only Irn Bru was something I'd always believed, but Asda have done a fine job in copying it.
I don't know whether it was cause my taste buds got used to not tasting Irn Bru while I was in NZ that caused me now to not be able to tell the difference or what, but because of the financial side of things I now buy Asda's Iron Brew at 3 for £1 instead of Irn Bru at 1 for £1.20.
All other Irn Bru fans out there, give the taste test a go, cause I'd be interested in seeing if other people can HONESTLY tell the difference. I've swallowed my pride with regard to it!!
Oh and a nice cold glass of coke is always good too. Prefer the pub draught coke to the bottle or canned stuff though.

Strange thing is I hate beer. Really can't stand the stuff, but love Guinness.
First drank Guinness in Dublin when i was there for 'work'. At that time I only drank vodka and coke. Was out with friends and my first vodka and coke cost me something like 6 euro... I could drink about 14 or so in a night out and had planned the best part of a week solid going out. So basically I couldn't afford to drink any where near as much as I planned. So I made my 2nd drink a Guinness. Figured I had to have one being in Dublin and all. And it was cheaper at 4 Euro... Before drinking it I think my entire genetic make-up altered itself as it knew I HAD to like it otherwise my week's drinking was totally financially screwed. My body knew it hated beer, but decided to make 1 exception. So imagine my surprise when I took my first sip and actually like the stuff!!! I had my week long drinking with friends. And as I'd never drank pints before, I was a complete light-weight on the Guinness, so I ended up having quite a cheap week too! Bargain!!

Guinness BUT only Draught, out of a can it falls to bits. Hence at home Grolsh, Heinken or the like.
I don't hate but really don't like alcho pops, that includes Barcadi Breezer and Smirnoff Ice. Alco pops are kids drinks IMO, not for real men
, seriously. I bet more is exported.
I'll just say this: If you find yourself in the Dublin Guinness Factory, Dublin, Ireland (in descending order) you MUST dry a Guinness regardless of your opinion of it. I challenge anyone to disagree that it tastes different.
Obviously it's still Guinness but it's way, way, creamier and thus nicer. It can be like water at times in the UK. Seriously it is true it tastes different in Ireland (and in particular the Guinness factory).
p.s - I used to hate Guinness too.

Did you know in Australia it's a country joke (like Babysham for us) to buy Fosters, they get an even bigger kick if a pom buys it. You never, ever see an Aussie buy itShingster wrote:I'm a Fosters man myself.
It's a common misconception is a stout. It's not a beer, there is a difference.BiscLimpkit wrote:Not a fan of beer either but I think you don't have to be to appreciate Guinness.

And do you concur it tastes better in Ireland?degeneration wrote:The best Guinness I've had wasn't actually in the Guinness brewery in Dublin, believe it or not! It was actually in one of hte bars in the Temple Bar area.

Agreed, I cannot fathom grim's naivety on all things Irn Bru - it's been one of the most famous high street soft drinks across the UK for decades now! It's like someone being baffled about the existence of Schweppes Lemonade, or Shandy Bass!Kurgan wrote:Seriously, what's the confusion over Irn-Bru? It's been in England for years. It's not like it's a new drink that's been introduced over the last decade. I've been drinking it since I was a child. Tastes delicious
Aussies for you, all that alcohol has obviously addled their brains.bradavon wrote:Did you know in Australia it's a country joke (like Babysham for us) to buy Fosters, they get an even bigger kick if a pom buys it. You never, ever see an Aussie buy it, seriously. I bet more is exported.

A decent sized crowd of us went on a right bender Saturday, we all knocked a few pints back, went to a nice Italian restaurant and knocked another couple of pints and glasses of wine back with the meal, then went back to a m8s were I whipped out a fresh bottle of Absinthe. There was only 3 of us drinking th stuff and the other two bailed out after 2-3 shots (all flaming) but I was knocking em back a treat - drank each one thumb-fire style too! (If anyone doesn't know what that is, i'm happy to explain. It's definitely the most dangerous but fun way to consume Absinthe/Sambuca)
Scary thing was, I looked at the bottle at the end of the night and we'd drunk nearly all of it - and I'd consumed nearly half the bottle myself! Perhaps even scarier, I didn't even get pissed! Although I was pretty merry by the end of the evening!
Woke up Sunday morning with slightly burnt lips, but almost no hangover - I did feel like i'd drank a gallon of lighter fluid though! One of my m8s was violently hill because of the Absinthe, poor sod!
