Freeview question

Post by grim_tales »

Hey,

Brad (and others) did you know that E4 (finally an "entertainment" channel on Freeview ;) ) ) will launch on there in May?

How does this affect current subscribers? :? I'm guessing that 1 day it will just be there, no? I dont get E4 at the moment, one channel is listed as "E4" (it even tells you whats on) but I just get a black screen for 30s, then the Top Up TV screen.

Top Up TV has changed slightly as well so it costs £1 on a non subscription basis (?) Still a waste of money though IMO.

Nope. What is your source?

I ask as Topuptv has E4 so why would it be on Freeview for free? I hope you're right though that would be excellent. There's ABC 1.

You don't really subscribe to Freeview everything on it is free so by design people would just get it.

There are now two deals (both a waste of time):

1. The original £7.99 a month deal for a few okay channels
2. £1 a day for ONE channel which shows a sample of the other channels so I'm betting you get some of each.

I read it on Ceefax, on their entertainment pages (500 onwards). :)
Here's a better article though:

Nice one Grim two new channels - E4 and E4 +1

What I'd like to know is what does that mean for people who are paying for it as part of TopupTV. They must be really annoyed. It makes TopupTV even less worth the while.

Perhaps they'll add another channel (Sky One :D ) or something to Topup TV instead. I agree Topup TV is rubbish though.

I havent watched stuff on ABC1 yet - I've never heard of some of the shows on there.
Is that only on in the morning?

It's not on that often. I think it's the morning and maybe longer at the weekend. I've not heard of most of it but they have some good stuff on their for Saturday/Sunday mornings.

I can't see Freeview getting Sky as One as Sky is a competitor who apart from Sky News, Sky Sports News and Sky Travel don't want anything to do with Freeview. It's a good point though.

So the encrypted channel will just go unencrypted? When?

Speaking of Freeview for those who don't know "Men and Motors" is now on channel 38 but it's no where near as good as it used to be. It used to be bikes/cars before 11 and afterwards lots of T&A now they barely have any.

They used to have a wicked show on all the time called "Hot Body" it's now long since gone :( .

Get rid of the bloody "Professionals" and bring back T&A!

"Hot Body" was excellent each hour long episode focused on 10+ VERY hot women stripping down to their panties and dancing around a lot.

There was some competition to where one of them won a prize. I never paid much attention to that :D .

It's utter tosh. 90% of the show is how they made it and repeating the same footage.

"Naked News" now that was a cool show 8) , it used to be on Sky up until recently.

True thats what annoys me about the wrestling show, I kept thinking "Havent I seen this episode before?" :P Silly.
What channel was NN on?
They do show "The Steam Room" or something but IMO Jo Guest isnt even fit.

Thanks Brad. :)
Gotta live without TV (upstairs anyway) for a bit till things get sorted out, I think the ariel guy may have to come and put a new lead in, whether or not my mum realises this (I did put this idea forward and offered to pay but she initially said no) is another matter... the old one is too beat up to connect right.

Hmm.. somehow, (don't ask me how), I put the old lead in as best I could (after my mum had been fiddling with plyers and stuff), and the quality (even on C5, considering how bad that is in this area) is very good for terrestial :D I'm impressed. So its good for now and I can watch TV/Freeview again :D

Hey,

How do you re-scan Freeview boxes? :? My channels don't automatically update themselves it seems. BBC News 24 should be on Channel 80 etc, but on my box its on Channel 40.

On my box I cant find an option to rescan it, only one for "Re-do the first time installation" :?

There should be an Add or Scan option. It probably depends on your model where they are exactly or what they're called.

If not do that redo option will it really matter?

Does it matter what the channel number is?

TBH not really. :)
I don't see an Add or Scan option but there is a "Search for Channels" one, my box is one of the Nokia ones, a Mediamaster 121T (I think).

Is that a true Freeview box or ex-ITV Digital box? Not there is any difference really between the two.

I'm guessing:

* Add channels is - Search on your model
* Redo is - Scan on your model

I'd Redo if I were you. I suspect Search won't reorder the channels but like I said why bother. I don't know if you can do this on Freeview boxes but my ex-ITV Digital box allows you to reorder the channels.

Some of the default channel ordering is completely illogical. I've reordered stacks of the channels to put my faves at the start and the TopupTV ones near the end.

I Add channels every now and again but refuse to scan again as it wipes the entire custom channel order list.

Its' true Freeview Brad, I'm sure.

I'll leave it as it is for now, TBH I'd like to get a new box at some point as I'm not happy with this one (bloody thing crashes and freezes a lot).

The Sony boxes are gorgeous but for £80 a pop I'd insist upon a TopupTV slot, which they don't have :drunken:

Yep but for £80 it would be uber dumb not to be future proof. Besides I'd be surprised if TopUPTV doesn't add more channels.

It's a waste of money right now but who knows for the future.
