Definitive Editions?

Post by Shen »

Has anyone got any of the definitive editions that have been released

I'm particularly interested in the Fight Club and Silence of the Lambs DVDs. but wanna know if they are worth it, the extras look good, but anyone have any idea on the picture quality?

The Fight Club one is uncut now, and has all the extras from the 2 disc R1 (all the commentaries etc). I'll probably get that one :)

Fight Club, Its the same as the old dvd as far as I know, quality dvd really great extras.

All they done with the new edition is add the cut footage back in (the 3 seconds or so) and add a few more extras and pack it into a tin book thing :) so the picture and sound will be as you would expect, cracking as the old transfer was great to start with.

I have a brand new copy (only opened to check its ok inside) I am offloading if your after it  as I have the Region 1 edition, and really cannot keep both. Can let it go cheap as I need to get rid of 500 dvds sadly, as got too many. Was gonna Ebay, but takes to long.

The SotL UK Definitive Edition is unmitigated crap. It's basically missing like 90% of the opening credits and the burnt-in X-files style captions have been replaced with player-generated ones.

The one to buy is the R1 CE. Same extras as the aforementioned UK release minus all its faults.

Shut up, I'm right on this one. An absolute judgement, but the correct one (unless you want to get the OOP "zillion dollars on Ebay for a genuine copy" Criterion).

No excuses like "oh the UK DVD is so cheap and the R1 expensive" or "But I have no credit card" hold water here. Stop living in denial and pony up the cash for the best version in print.

I bet you havent even seen the UK dvd, just read about it. I have both so at least I know. If you love subtitles then hey maybe, but I couldnt care less about genarated subs, unless they suck that bad. Esspecially if the burnt in subs are covered in compression artifacts which on many dvds they are.

Each to their own I guess on this one :D

Redone captions I can live with... but missing credits??

Bollocks to that.

I have the R2 Sp. Ed and the credits are intact and the image is virtually identical to the R2 DE.

I don't much like the look of the Criterion though it's supposedly more accurate to the theatrical presentation.

I have no idea what you mean by missing credits anyway, they are all on mine, no different to the Region 1 eidtion at all from what I saw. Exactly what do you mean? as they all seem perfect on mine thats or sure.

We're talking about the newer UK SotL DVD which has the DTS track.

WHAHAHA. You'd think that people would recognise the "SotL" acronym.
