Disappearing Bookmarks?

Post by grim_tales »

Hey,

A while ago when I came back on the internet I loaded up Firefox but noticed all of my bookmarks/folders had disappeared? :? That included ones for this page, Imports Forum, and several other boards.
I had to start all over again and make new bookmarks, as I'm pretty certain they're not "hiding"... :?

Firefox 2.0+ makes backups. Look in [drive letter]\Documents & Settings\[login name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\[profile name]\bookmarkbackups

If you haven't done so already (and shame on you if you haven't) you'd need to enable "show hidden system files" and "show file extensions" in Folder Options.

Had a look and the old ones are still there under "Favorites" using the method you describe - can I import them back into the Firefox Boomarks menu? :)

Are they IE favourites, or they are in the form of a single HTML file? Yes on both counts.

Looks like they're all HTML files not proper web pages.
They're not IE favorites I'm afraid (they are similar). Frustratingly all of IE's favorites remained untouched (and I dont even use it) :)

Close Firefox. Delete your current "bookmarks.html" and copy over the most up-to-date backup htm to your main profile directory. Rename it to "bookmarks.html".

Grim: Eva is spot on in his first post.

That folder path is specific to Windows 2000 and XP, it's different on other versions of Windows, including Vista.

p.s - Forget IE Favourites they're entirely different.
