thats a lot for renting a place to me.
The thing is it's not, unless you're prepared to just rent a room or live in a shit hole. It's just the way it is, you want to live somewhere nice you pay (location + building).
It all comes to about £900 taking into account petrol, which currently costs me £100 a month but will disappear rapidly when I find a job I can walk to. Of which I'm doing right now, finding a new job.
Water is about £15 a month it's a set price, electricity will be about £30, broadband + Telephone is a set £20 (Tiscali deal), food for me is about £60 (which is way lower than a lot of people spend), council tax is £84, TV license is £35 a quarter. I don't smoke, drink very little (compared to most people).
It's no wonder most people cannot afford to buy. I couldn't afford to buy in the city I'm moving to.
You'll realise too when you move out, it's not cheap. Most mortgages are £500-650 on average so really it's no different. I'm not planning to rent long term as that would be silly. Yes I could find a cheaper one bedroom place elsewhere (or a two bedroom place for about the same price) but the location would suck. You wouldn't necessarily get anything nicer too.
What you do get however (as many Bullets members already know) is complete independence, it's your place.
