Man completes 13 year travel around the world!

Post by bradavon »

OMG this is out of this world:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/dorset/7031576.stm

It took him 13 years, much of it in a peddle boat. He left home when he was 26 :|

97 DAYS! -
Smith joined Lewis for the first four years of the journey, which included the 97-day crossing of the Atlantic.

What makes you think he is an idiot?

And it is very sad that he is using his experiences from the trip to help enhance children's learning experience in the classroom. How sad. He should get a life and stop being so selfish. It is idiots like this that should just keep to themselves and leave children's learning experiences to the children. They are doing very well these days after all.

I'd say he is a massive role model for kids. It took him 13 years but he didn't give up and saw it through to the end, including being arrested in Egypt and breaking both his legs.

I'm not saying going to his lengths is right for everyone but if more people took on challenges like his and travelled more the world would be in a much better place.

He certainly wasn't a rich kid, and as Shen says, raised money for the trip by doing odd jobs, afterwards he will write a book about what he did, and as Degen says wants to help children. :)
Indeed, how sad. (!)
Brad that's right, he went through a lot, I think he got run over in America and almost lost the use of his leg.

He got hit by a car and it broke both his legs. Imagine that, not being able to walk for 9 months, even then he continued.

<ROMERO-MODE>Hell No. I'm not gonna ready every newsarticle or link! If it's REALLY an interesting story worth knowing about, I'm sure someone will turn it into a movie at which time I'll go check out what all the fuss is about...</ROMERO-MODE>

Romero, try reading the link for heaven's sake. It says he used to be a cleaner, so wasn't a rich person, and he was using the expedition to enhance children's learning in the classroom, now he will do more smaller expeditions, and give talks about climate change so he's doing something useful!

Hmm, I actually thought it was the news article that said so... But then why bother putting something morally and socially upbeat in the news. Talk about a waste of space. They should make sure the news is only reporting on the deaths, murders, rapes and general horrible things in life that happen all too often to make sure we stay a disillusioned society that stays adamant about and continues to believe the fact that the world and its people have gone to shit. I hate the fact that it has been brought to my attention that someone is actually doing their bit to try to improve things for people. That conceited, arrogant ass...

No you're wrong the events described in the article did actually happen.
Shen wrote:take no notice of him grim...he knows he winds people by being an ignorant ass, thats why he does it.
That and Romero isn't able to admit it when he's got something wrong.

I presume Romero said it because he believes everyone should be doing a 9-5 job and if you're not you're by default being lazy.
