Bowties

Post by BiscLimpkit »

I went to a sports ball last weekend, so I bought a tux and my friend lent me a clip-on bowtie. I decided that it would be cheating and decided to buy a real one. My goodness, these things are the most impossible things ever. Even with the instructions, it took me a good few hours to get it right (I still can't tie it very well). Had to get my mum to help us out... I just prayed it wouldn't get untied during the night.

I mean I can tie a double-windsor knot on a regular tie - that's easy, but bowties are really fiddly. Is there an easy way to tie these things?

The night out was pretty good - although I had a helluva hangover the next day... :(

Oh Bow Tie :D

Thankfully I've never had to try. I cannot stand ties as it is, let alone bow ties. I only wear ties when I have to, such as work, and even then usually don't bother.

Why would ANYONE wear a bow-tie!? What are you? 70!?

Seriously man, bow ties aint cool. Never have been, never will. I can somewhat understand ties being cool, when you have a proper one and look slick all over... but bowties are for cartoon ducks and black-and-white silent movies...

I dont owe any tie, or bowtie... or even a suit for that matter.
Next time I'm in Hong Kong, I'll probably buy some suits though... just so I can pretend to be James Bond.

You don't own at least one tie? What sector do you work in? What about job interviews? You're definitely not giving yourself a fair chance if you go to an interview without a tie. It may seem silly but people will mark you down without one. Only a (male) fool would go to an interview without a tie.

Ties are the norm in many business sectors. I don't like them but it is a simple fact you do look smarter wearing on. I don't own a suite though, that's overkill IMO. Unless you're a lawyer :D

Bow ties are usually the done thing at balls and parties. I've never been to such an event that needs one but I seriously doubt Bisc wore one to look cool ;)

When I'm healthy, I'm in the graphic design business... so no need to dress up for that :D

Plus, I dont have to wear smooth clothes to make a good impression. I look pretty reliable, and can talk pretty well. I just tell the truth about me and my past etc, and if that aint good enough for them, then so be it. I have that kinda attitude, and up till now it pretty much always payed off.

I'm not gonna dress up and pretend to be something I'm not. Obviously, I will dress 'nice', as in I wont come in wearing a jogging outfit and a cap on my head...
Just normal decent clothes.

And wearing a tie says that? A tie to most people says you're professional and smart, which is what you want in an interview.

It's possibly different in graphic design being more relaxed (maybe?) but I'd still wear a tie to any interview. It's best to assume that's what they're expecting. Maybe, it's different in Holland.

I still find it surprising you don't own at least one tie.

Agreed most people don't either but when you're at an interview you want to do everything to impress, as much as possible. At least I do. If at all I possible once I've to the job I'll never wear a tie again though. I cannot understand people who were shirts and ties for leisure purposes.

They say interviewers make their mind up whether they like you in the first 10 seconds. Is that enough time to impress them with your articulation skills? ;)

Aye as mentioned, a lot of people wear bow ties at formal/black tie events. I know it makes you look like a prick but if everyone else looks like one too then nobody notices. :p

I'll probably wear it again at the company dinner dance.

Actually a lot of guys wore kilts that evening but I doubt they wear them all the time.

I don't wear a tie every day but I think shirts look better with ties than without... especially if you tie it properly with a good solid knot.

To my understanding, it usually hits around 40. I guess I'm on the eve of middle age. :pale:

No man, at 50 you're basically already DEAD. That aint 'middle-aged'. That's just 'aged'.

:P

I find it kinda hard to think about older age btw. With so many people dying prematurely from all kinds of horrible stuff... it's kinda hard to 'plan'.
And REALLY thinking (deep and hard) about life and death and age and all that, usually makes me VERY depressed... so that's no use either.

I'm kinda like a philosopher of life I guess... but a really bad one... cause it depresses the hell out of me :P

That's not particularly sensible, with people growing to older and older ages it makes sense to think ahead. Anyone whose working and doesn't have some kind of pension is a fool.

I even top up my pension. Pension top ups in the the UK are tax free so for every £30 you put in you actually get £50 saved.

In Holland, pensioners have been scammed by the goverment, so personally I'm not eager to do that. Your deal in the UK sounds much better though.

But as you know, I'm not working at the moment, so cant build anything up. And as soon as I'm healthy, I hope to emigrate to somewhere else and build a future there, cause Holland sucks.

Although apparently there's a chance of a superstorm coming in 2-3 weeks, which could flood half the country... so we'll see how that goes first ;)

Our goverment fucking sucks man. Absolutely no use to build up something. They will just take it and throw it away.

I'm talking about "top ups" which are voluntary amounts you pay on top of the actual pension. I bet Holland has it too.

As to not bothering because your government sucks that is incredibly narrow minded. Our government also screwed over many over 60s too but that doesn't mean you should just not bother. You'll seriously regret it when you 60+ and have to live of a pittance.

FYI all governments suck. I doubt Holland is much worse. In fact I'm sure by many governments standards it's considerably better. You think the governments/way of life in most of Asia or South America are better? No way.

You've mentioned that Holland sucks many times and each time you seem to have a romantic view of the rest of the world. The truth is all countries suck but equally all countries have elements that make them brilliant. Yes even The UK and Holland.
