I used to hate them too. Thankfully my ex-employees were always so useless at arranging anything we rarely had an Xmas party.

This year being unemployed I've not got one to go to :D

I am unemployed, but even if I was employed and they'd throw a Xmas party, I wouldnt go. I'm not really a party-kinda-guy.

I'm kinda like Red from that 70's show. Everyone except my girlfriend is a 'dumbass'. ;)

1: I dont drink alcohol anyway.
2: I can afford my own drinks, which I can drink in the privacy of my own home WITHOUT being surrounded by idiots.

Booze is the last thing that one should be spending their welfare cheque (but in your case, DVDs and videogames) on.

Well.. like I said, I dont drink alcohol at all, so I never waste any money on it, obviously. :)

But TBH, even if I had all the money on the world, I still wouldnt visit parties.
I just HATE social gatherings.
If I didnt have my girlfriend, I'd probably be off living in a cave somewhere...

Presumably the only free drinks aren't alcoholic? Would you drink alcho-pops? The drinks that taste like lemonade but aren't.

Even with friends?

Nope, I wouldnt drink alco-pops. Why bother? A coke is cheaper and usually more tasty.

In the first few days in Hong Kong my girlfriend's little gangstah-nephews took us out to a fancy expensive bar. I was in REALLY bad mood cause we had already had a few very hectic days and ofcourse not enough sleep, plus my stomach was hurting. Anyway, I was looking as if I'd kill anyone who'd piss me off... :D
So the 2 gangstahboys, my girlfriend and little sister all ordered fancy-named expensive 'mixes'/cocktails. I just ordered a Coke.

They went 'ha-ha' at my sobre choice of drinks. I shrugged it off with a pleasant looking wry smile on an Eastwood-inspired face.

10 minutes later, they had taken their first zips of their drinks, and were looking jealously at my tasty Coke. :)

I just HATE social gatherings.
Even with friends?
Yeah, pretty much. I dont mind being around friends, obviously, but I do want to be DOING something. I dont just wanna sit around and 'talk' and all that. I hate birthdays. I get bored really easy. As a kid I'd just grab a pile of comicbooks and drown myself into them untill it would be time to leave again. As an adult, reading at a party/birthday is kinda frowned upon, as people wanna ask you all the same boring questions over and over again.
I dont mind talking about serious stuff, or stuff that interests me... but I doubt a party/birthday is the right place and time to have a serious discussion about the Middle East, our goverment, immigration, Bush/USA, etc etc etc... ;)
I dont mind 'chit-chat' when I shortly meet or speak to a friend. But to be 'locked' at a party for a few hours doing non-stop chit-chat etc... I dont see the appeal.

So if I do meet with a big group, I want there to be some sort of activity to keep us all busy and occupied. Be it bowling, eating, a movie, whatever. :)

Nope. most were nice. some were idiots. But being at a party means you'll be surrounded by at least a few idiots, plus by some people who are boozing, so they'll start behaving like idiots...

Anyway, even a few idiots is too much for me. Idiots annoy me. Drunk people annoy me.

High five, Yi. As you might have guessed already, I don't drink any alcohol either. Parties bore me to death, no matter if it is a bar or a disco.

High Five LD! (and as we are both sober, there's a high potential of actually making it hit!)

Yeah, I never cared for 'discos' either. I remember as kid of 15 -16 or something I went to some disco's with schoolmates etc. And I just didnt care. Kids gettingd runk, smoking, dancing... meh. Big meh. I didnt care. I also tried drinking and didnt care for it. I didnt get drunk and it didnt make it more fun. I was just drinking a drink that was less tasty than Cola, so that didnt make any sense to me.

Same thing with smoking btw. Never got into it. Never had a need to get into it. It's nasty. It just tastes bad, and it stinks. So I never really bothered with it.

When I was 20 orso I even went with chinese/indonesian friends to an 'Asian Disco' near Utrecht. I liked the trip to and from, but the disco itself was just boring as hell. I wound up in the little 'restaurant' (inside the disco) eating very tasty chickenwings :D
ofcourse, lots of pretty asian chicks at the party, but TBH I'm not really interested in 'party girls' who get drunk, smoke and are nice to all the boys.

I agree with Yi and LD, i hate parties, idiots and drunk people, yeah fantastic way to spend 3hrs... I do drink alcohol but so very occasionally and then just 1 or 2, mainly because i dislike coke and lemonade. Last time i drank was at my fathers funeral over a year ago. I never go to parties, even when invited and i'm currently trying to get out of my own 21st party next year... never smoked either, and i dont really enjoy hanging out in groups of people, i have few friends anyway and pretty far apart so when we do meet up its usually just 2 or 3 of us. Parties, discos etc just rally arent fun in my eyes..

My mom once tried throwing a birthday party for me when I said I 100% certainly didnt want it and wouldnt be there. I told my friends and everyone else in advance I wouldnt be home for my birthday...

And I wasnt :D

My best friend's dad once co-owned a karaoke-bar in Amsterdam, so we went there for my friend's birthday. I dont care for singing. I cant dance and I cant sing (Yes... I AM Phil Collins... now you know!), so I just enjoyed the sodas and the food. Very nice people at the party though.

Also, when I talked a bit with the chief-hostess and told her I liked Leslie Cheung, she played 3 musicvideos of him on the big screen in the central room :)

But no, I dont care for karaoke. :) My girlfriend likes it though. She and her lil sis occasionally do it at her home.

edit: Maybe I would like Singstar-style games though. I dont know.

I love to rap at karaoke parties. Because people already struggle when singing in English and pronouncing the words correctly when they read them, they totally flip out when I get on stage and rap a song by Eminem or so. LOL!
