Game reviewer fired for giving a low score
http://blog.wired.com/games/2007/11/sou ... mespo.html
This is outrageous.
It's well known that some major game press outlets take bribes from publishers to give their games favourable reviews and scores.

Myeah.
If this is the only reason he's fired, than it's ridiculous....
...but I believe there have been many complaints about this guy before, when he had some 'strange' ratings, like a very high score for Tony Hawk and 'just' a 8.8 for Zelda or something. I'm not really sure of the details, but I believe he wasnt well liked.
Maybe this was the last straw. Too many complaints by fans and now publishers pulling reviews.
I've watched the video-review on youtube and it's pretty negative, but I wouldnt call it excessively hostile. Guy does seem like a bit of a dick though.
TBH, I never pay much attention to gamespot.com anyway. I usually check with IGN and Gametrailers.com

Haha was only pullin your legs. I was published in Total Film, but not as writer
you all know me I love to winge, so thats what they printed haha
I sent them this after they ruined 28 Weeks Later, and they edited this email down to one line and put it on the letters page, edited it down so much it was barley a comment.
But if I was reviewing films/games etc.. and someone offered you cash, or good gifts to change your review, would you do that? not sure myself, but I am sure many do lie to gain cash and gifts.
The Oscars is a prime example of this bribe situation.

They appologied on the letters page etc.. but still they ruined the film for me by posting one whopping spoiler. They gave me a dvd for my spoilt film.
Hello Total Film,
Page 58 of Issue 129? care to explain that one!
I have seen some bad spoilers in the magazine lately (nearly wrote in a few months back because of it), but this one really makes me so angry I could get infected and Kill you all.
Morons is the only word for it. I expected a lot more from you lot.
You have now ruined 28 Weeks Later for many people.
Yours peed off

No, it's still going. They combined with sister-mag Screen Power a while back. I think they only sell it in specialist stores (like Forbidden Planet).saltysam wrote:i read a couple of issues of this, haven't seen it for ages, thought it had folded.Markgway wrote: It's Jade Screen btw in case anyone was wondering... lol

Well you did say you reviewed films, how is that even remotely a review?romerojpg wrote:Haha was only pullin your legs. I was published in Total Film, but not as writeryou all know me I love to winge, so thats what they printed haha
So we've gone from "You'd be sacked for letting us know", to "A review in Total Film" to "A Winge that only got one sentence posted". And you say you don't Bullshit
What part did they post?
Are your reviews online?Markgway wrote:You shouldn't be embarrassed, man. I write for a mag (not as mainstream as Total Film mind) and am cool about people knowing.

I've had articles on DVD Times, prior to the Film Journal
I remember Empire did a full dissection of the ending of The Sixth Sense, just a month after the film's release. Since I was 13, I hadn't seen the film at the cinemas and was pretty damn annoyed!
