Seems she's been getting a little too close to Hugh Grant in a public restaurant whilst being "caressed" by John Duigan! Anyway, the british tabloid's response to this has been farcical at best:

I read that article (well the headline). Was it Shu Qi? OMG! I never knew that. The photo wasn't great so you couldn't tell who it was.

You'd think they'd have mentioned she was in The Transporter. Sure Shu Qi did some Page 3 style photos but that hardly makes her a porn star. I've not seen Sex & Zen 2 but I didn't think it was a porn film.

Nor have they bothered to mention she's since won many highly praised acting awards, probably because they're not American or British awards so obviously don't count. Thankfully for her it's the Daily Mirror so no one gives a fuck.

I'm tempted to e-mail them and tell them what a load of drivel they've written:

The only real mistake they make is to refer to her as Qi - her forename.

True. The Daily Mirror should've mentioned that was over 10 years ago and since then she's been in over 50 serious films, some of which she's won awards for. All of which deliberately is ignored.

They did mention her manager turned down a role in CTHD, to make her look stupid. They didn't mention Jet Li also turned down CTHD.

The connotation of the article is that Shu Qi is some porn-star trollop who let Grant and Duigan go to town on her in a crowded restaurant. The truth is that, while she did have a stint doing softcore photoshoots and films when she was young, Sex & Zen II is little more than a chinese equivalent to something like the 70s sex-comedies that a fair few o f today's household TV stars starred in back in the early days of their careers as well - and to bracket Viva Erotica in with Sex & Zen II is just taking the piss!

How ironic that she should be labelled a porn star by a national press who wouldn't dare say the same thing about "inspirational woman/mother" Katie Price!

Jet Li also turned down the role of Neo and Chow Yun-fat turned down the role of Morpheus in "The Matrix". Let them make films like "Cradle 2 the Grave" and "Bulletproof Monk" instead.

Well, the article on Friday 14th quotes another diner who points out they left the restaurant about 1.30am, so that means it had to have happened before Thursday 13th, because the time they left would be too late for the story to go to print by the 14th. I think it's most likely the incident took place between Mon-Wed last week. The first Daily Mirror article that appeared in the newspaper itself did feature a large picture of the "mystery woman" at the restaurant, and I have to admit that the first thing I thought when I saw the picture was "That's Shu Qi", so I think the chances are high that she is the woman in question.

There's also the fact that apparently she's temporarily living with John Duigan at the moment while he "considers her for various film projects". Way to back a top-flight, ultra-talented film director there love!
