I do have a UK PS3, and no I don't have plans to get into HD-DVD at the moment.
Well I've only watched Oldboy on my standard definition widescreen, but what I can tell you is that contrast levels vary wildly. Bits that are supposed to be black are often nothing like, which is a bit shit. It's something that would make you think your LCD was underperforming in the black level department lol, good job I watched this on my CRT! But other than that it seems decent, and reviews say it's the best presentation of the film that you can get

Assuming you mean the 78' Dawn Of The Dead then the transfer is fine,an improvement on the ultimate edition.bear in mind though this is a very low budget film and it won't give you the usual HD "pop". i know the film very well so appreciated the improvement, someone who has never seen the movie before may be less impressed

Thanks. It's cool I've never seen it but now the BD is out that is all that interests me.saltysam wrote:then the transfer is fine,an improvement on the ultimate edition.bear in mind though this is a very low budget film and it won't give you the usual HD "pop". i know the film very well so appreciated the improvement, someone who has never seen the movie before may be less impressed

What type of BD Player did you go for or did you just find them at a bargain price? Did you see my post about the Samsung LCD TV? You never replied to my PM.

Resident Evil Apocalpse (German HD DVD)
Transformers
Alexander Revisited (soon to be sold, its caca)
Tremors
Underworld Evolution (Spanish HD DVD)
300
Hot Fuzz
Mission Impossibe
Mission Impossibe 2
Mission Impossibe 3
Clerks 2
Heroes Season 1 Box Set
Matrix 3 film Box Set (UK)
Children of Men
Pitch Black
The Big lebowski
Chronicals of Riddick
Serenity (UK)
The Frighteners
The Thing

The Last Samurai
Every single one of them pisses all over the dvds I had of em from miles above, so all are worth the upgrade.
Hopefully soon I will start getting a lot more, but trying to go slow at the mo and sell tonnes of dvds before buying HD stuff. Plenty in the post as well at the mo.

As long as you buy Region Free BDs! Unless you're sure you know which region player you'll get. As the three you bought are all Warner titles they'll be Region Free. You can find out here:Markgway wrote:No harm in getting a few in advance for the right price.

I'm doing the same but the odd Region Locked title I want I'm not buying until I actually have the player, just in case.
Sweet!gasteropod wrote:On a related topic, I have just this minute ordered a new TV! Toshiba Regza 47Z3030, from Empire Direct, for an amazing £1,194.99 including delivery! I managed to find a valid 10% discount code online and used that mwahahaha. I cannae wait!
Is it FULL HD?

I checked in advance. All Warners titles are Region Free. Kudos.bradavon wrote:As long as you buy Region Free BDs! Unless you're sure you know which region player you'll get.
I'd buy a UK player (it's safer and has warrenty) so that would be Region B.
The amount of coded titles that will be exclusive to the US is, I'd imagine, very slim, when you take into account Europe and Aus.
For that price it had fucking better be.Is it FULL HD?

A USA Player has warranty too. MovieTyme and the like don't sell players without any warranty.Markgway wrote:I'd buy a UK player (it's safer and has warrenty) so that would be Region B.
There are much more Region A only titles to Region B only titles.Markgway wrote:The amount of coded titles that will be exclusive to the US is, I'd imagine, very slim, when you take into account Europe and Aus.
It may even itself out slightly if you love EIV releases but the majority of those can be bought on Region A BD or HD-DVD whereas many of the Region A BDs are exclusive, until someone else releases them.
EIV simply follow the likes of New Line and Warner, and always will.
Region A also gives you the Far East. Region B just gives you Europe and Australasia, which are big but not as big. The Far East and North America are arguably more important, especially if you take into account America is the country that people import from bar far more than any other, hence it gets more regional coding.
We've been over this I thought Salty and I explained it well for you?

If you import it to the UK and use a voltage converter the warranty is void. Fact. If the machine is fucked you'll have to pay for repairs etc. Fact.bradavon wrote:A USA Player has warranty too. MovieTyme and the like don't sell players without any warranty.
Can't see the majority of releases being region coded.Region A also gives you the Far East.
