Quicktime Alternative is dead

Post by EvaUnit02 »

source= wikipedia

On June 4, 2007, information and download links for QuickTime Alternative has been removed from the website of its developer, codecguide.com, at the request of Apple. The latest version, 1.81, released on May 2, 2007, can still be found on many download sites, and as part of some other programs that incorporate it. It is presumed that no further versions of QuickTime Alternative will be developed.

Now we're doomed to use the Apple bloatware at some point. The latest Itunes (not that I use that faggot software) always needs the latest QT.

Guide for optimising the Apple bloatware by the QTA authors.

This is indeed a shame. Personally I've never minded the Official QT Player so just use that but can see why people hate it. I do despite RealPlayer though and haven't even installed it on my Vista PC, even using RealAlternative.

I hope that doesn't get closed down too as I flatly refuse to install RealPlayer to the point I'd rather not watch Real Media files.

For now I guess you can still use QuickTime Alternative 1.81 but soon enough that will become obsolete as has happened with the newer QT files not working or working properly in older versions of QuickTime.

BTW FFDShow, Nero's plugin and CoreAVC can all handle QT files through WMP.

Lastly it's surprising it's taken Apple this long to get it closed down.

p.s - Cheers for reducing your signature size.

...and on the 3rd day, he rose again.
I can confirm that it works with MPC Homecinema and WMP10.

Surely this version still breaks copyright?
