Interesting 'Cube games for Xmas?

Post by grim_tales »

I was browsing through Play.com's Coming Soon section, these games look interesting/different IMO. (I mean ones I'm not used to playing as well as ones I'd enjoy) :)

Legend of Zelda: Twighlight Princess

From Russia With Love (finally a decent Bond game to rival GoldenEye?)

Shadow the Hedgehog

Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness

Viewtiful Joe 2 - havent finished the first one yet

Spartan: Total Warrior - is this a first? An 18 rated Cube game? Is it like God of War (supposed to be bloody brilliant).

Killer 7

Odama (?) - sounds like a pinball game or something :D

http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=rcs& ... tle=667464

Giftpia - looks a quirky, different RPG to me

http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=rcs& ... tle=479248

Mario Smash Football - sorry, but sounds a right laugh :D

Prince of Persia 3 = Though I'm enjoying the first (havent finished it yet) - I have heard bad things about Pop 2 :?

Which ones do you reckon are worth checking out?

Zelda: Twilight Princess was delayed to Q1/Q2 2006. Spartan is shaping up well, looks like Dynasty Warriors set in ancient Greece (duh). I hear Killer 7 ain't all that great.

You can't go wrong with Viewtiful Joe 2. Maybe rent out Prince of persia 3 and check it out. I haven't played the 2nd one yet, loved the first one.

Yeah the first is very good, I've heard mixed reviews about PoP 2 though, most saying Ubisoft decided to make it more adult for the sake of it :?

Animal Crossing is supposedly pretty fun, although it's more an interactive world to play with and do what you like (except killing, obviously, since it's a nintendo kiddie-game...) so depends on what you ask for in a game. I might buy it for my grilfriend once it becomes a bit cheaper, as she seems to like those kinda 'tamagotchi' games.

POP: I played the first one on xbox a little bit, but it didnt really grab my attention. I might pick it up again in a slow week some day ...
I didnt like it as much as I thought I would, and I'm not quite sure why. It just didnt.

POP2 is supposedly better, although some didnt like the darker tone, and supposedly the hard-rock music is a bit out of place. Personally, I havent played the game but it looks awesome from what I've seen, and I quite like a bit of gore in a game. I always feel that in a '(semi)-realistic' game when you hit a guy with a sword or whatever, you SHOULD see some blood or gore.

Spartan is getting some mixed reviews. It's a pretty straightforward hack-and-slash, and some love that type of game, and some (like me) find it tediously boring and simple.

Sonic Gems Collection might be a nice game to pick up, as it contains the very good Sonic CD. Apart from that it's a pretty mediocre collection though.

SSX on Tour seems a nice title. If you dont already have any of the earlier versions you might wanna pick it up, as the nintendo-version has some exclusove mario-stuff thrown in.If you have an Xbox or planning on getting a 360, you might wanna go for one of those, as they will most likely have better graphics and loading-times. The cube controller could pose a problem though...

Finally, I'm keeping an eye out for GUN, which promises to be a pretty damn good action-western title, which will be pretty open, as well have a Leone-flavour to it's visuals... so seems like it could be good. However, I think I'll wait for a 360 version of the game myself.(partly because of graphics, partly because of the joypad..._

In PoP 1 you see a bit of blood (very small) supposedly the 2nd one went over the top on the gore.

First time I've been on the games subforum in 6 months... :D

Nope, I don't have a cube, or a PS2, PS3, PSP, Game Boy Advance or any of that stuff.

My last console was a Sega Master System. :D
Haven't used it in the last 15 years, though.

I just don't believe in consoles. Too expensive, and they become obsolete too quickly.
Nothing beats a well-equipped PC IMO. :)

Been thinking about a PSP but I'd realy like to try it in a store (same for a proper go on the DS). Also the "extras" on the PSP dont appeal to me that much, I mean I have my DVD player to watch movies etc :?
I heard Tigger was selling a cheap DS on another forum. :)

There seem to be a lot of racing games on the PSP just like there are puzzle games on the DS.

I'd go for a PSP if I were you, Grim,a s the DS aint that special, plus the ones in the store that have had much of people using the stick on the touchscreen, dont seem to work that accurately anymore, so I have my doubts about the quality...
Plus I'd expect the stick-scribbly thing to get boring after a while. A nice gimmick, but Nintendo has based it's whole system on it, while the PSP is just much more advanced, tech-wise.

Plus the PSP has been cracked so it's easier to store data on it and download games for it etc etc...

One attraction for me with the DS is the backwards compatability, I never bought a SP (GBA SP) and there are loads of games I want to play on it right now, not saying I dont want to give the PSP a spin, its meant to be a PS2 in your pocket :D Though the DS is a pocket N64 (power wise).

I'm glad Nintendo is trying something different (the stylus) though...

Yeah, personally I'm not into handhelds at all, so I certainly wouldnt be the wisest guy to take advice from on the issue, but overall PSP seems nicer. Ofcoure, I've never had a PS1 or 2, plus I think it will be the more popular system with developers, meaning more titles.

I'm sure there are a bunch of classic gameboy titles out, but to me there are already enough quality games on the normal gaming systems to keep me more then busy, and as I said I doubt I'll be playing on a handheld... (although I am in the train 3 hours a day... so it could be nice... ;) )

I have the PSP since its European release date and I am quite satisfied so far. I have three games ('Ridge Racer', 'Metal Gear Acid' and 'Mercury') and all three games are really fun. 'Ridge Racer' is the best however and I am thinking about getting 'Burnout Legends'.

Concerning 'Animal Crossing'... instead of getting that, I'd get 'Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life'. That's such an awesome game. I have been plaing it for quite a while and the good thing about it is that it is a game you would always return to. There were times I was bored with it, because I couldn't stand planting tomatoes etc all the time and gaining so little maoney for it. It was so hard for me to afford new stuff for my farm. There are several girls in town whom you can marry. During the first year you will have to win the love of one of these girls and I thought I'd get the neighbour's daughter as they are farmers, too. Well, didn't get me anything besides a son who eats quite a lot, he he he! Thought I'd get free seeds or so.

Possibly the most inventive game I have played on the GameCube so far is (apart from 'Metal Gear: Twin Snakes' and 'Zelda: Windwaker') 'Second Sight' by FreeRadical. You HAVE to get that game. It has such an awesome storyline and the way the action is presented will blow you away. Never before were psi-powers that great to use.

I might check out Harvest Moon then, its' funny because to describe it as a farming sim doesnt sound very interesting does it? :D The way you describe sounds as if you have free rein to do what you like almost.

LostDragon is right, i have heard alot of good things about 'Second Sight'. I also want to get Eternal Darkness for the cube, everyone says this is a great game.

I've played Harvest Moon on the SNES and enjoyed it. It might sound boring, buts it's not, strangley very addictive.

I didnt think Second Sight scored all that highly!? I'll check out some reviews. Heard alot of good things about Eternal Darkness.

I was already planning on getting Harvest Moon, as it is just the kinda game my girl would like, plus it's only 10 euro over here...

You thinking the same as me Yi-Long. Although my wife did watch me play and complete Metal Gear which was nice of her. She actually likes watching me play as she gets into some of the stories.

I highly recommend Eternal Darkness, fucking fantastic game. MGS: Twin Snakes is another kick arse Cube title.
