According to these two links sometime in 2006 BBC and ITV working together are going to release a Freeview type service called Freesat but using a Satellite dish.
This is to overcome the 25% of people who can't pick up Freeview right now (Romero pay attention).
From what I can gather it will showcase all of the BBC + ITV channels and Radio channels too but as far as other channels go I can only find out "plus more channels" so nothing.
IMO unless it's dirt cheap I really can't see the point as Freeview through your existing aerial should be 90 odd percent at the time of analogue switch off anyway. Still for those who want digital now I can see the point BUT only if it will also offer Channel 4 and 5.
I'll be keeping my eyes peeled in case it offers me more than Freeview but right now it's looking very basic and until it also offers Channel 4 and 5 who is going to be interested?
