Tsotsi - quality new SA film

This looks very interesting, its a SA film set in Johannesberg. In the local patois, tsotsi means a street thug or member of a gang. Its about what happens when one member winds up being saddled with and cares for a baby when a car jacking raid goes horribly wrong, and how it affects him.
Brad I know you're interested but I dont know if my local has it on?

Its filmed almost entirely in Tsotsi Taai (sp?) - the local language.

How do you know it's quality if you've not seen it?

Yeah, heard about this for a while now, and also saw it on Film 2006 last monday. Looks like a very good movie and the lead actor seems to be a talented guy.
Don't know if I'll watch it in the cinema, or wait a while and catch it on DVD...

This film looked awesome, I might see it if it's showing at this year's NZIFF in July.

Glad to hear that the director took an established novel and successfully updated it with modern African social concerns like AIDS. The South African hiphop soundtrack sounds very interesting too.

Actually it wasn't in Tsotsi Taai but a variety of languages including Afrikaans. I was surprised my friend couldn't pronounce the word "Tsotsi"

I saw the DVD in HMV today Brad, are you going to get it?

FYI it's pronounced Shot-se. I didn't know until one Mr. Kermode told us.

Brad have you read the review at DVD Talk? Interesting read, the reviewer gives it a measly 2/5. I thought it was outstanding.

I could be wrong but that's what Mark Kermode says and he's usually right, with the exception of when I disagree about a film he reviewed.

When did you see it? What you bought the DVD?

I saw it at my local theatre a couple of weeks ago. Fair enough its not a very original story but it is very good.
