Pics in signatures/avatars
Hey Mordib, could you please add the option of disabling avatars and pics in signatures to the forum settings? These massive images that everyone is using now is really slowing down my page load times (I'm in shitty NZ where the fucking monopolistic NZ Telecom won't unbundle their layed cable, so thus they're forcing really slow speeds of 256k upon everyone).

Yeah, it sucks. Every other country has had cable unbundling except NZ and Mexico.
Fucking Telescum are the telecommunications monopoly and own all the layed cabling in NZ. They're probably afraid that they'll lose their stranglehold on say toll calls to VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol - eg Skype, Net2Phone), which require fast upload speeds (which Telescum have limited to 128k).
The pussy liberal government which we've had for the last 6+ years NEED to force them to unbundle, they're hurting the economy which is prolly becoming more reliant on e-commerce everyday.

But wait... how the hell did Peter Jackson direct lots of different parts and sets of LotR via internet video then? It was in one of the making ofs. He was laying on a couch at home or so and directed certain scenes by seeing the set on a huge-ass screen. I mean that requires a lot of bandwidth, doesn't it?

How do you figure that? I can't talk for the rest of Europe?EvaUnit02 wrote:One can also get 1 and 2MBit download speeds, which is still REALLY slow by international standards.
Most of the UK can only get up to 2MB and besides unless you download sheds of data (really movies) 512Kbps is fine. I wouldn't want to go lower and am on 2MB but I'd only go faster if the price wasn't over £20.
I don't care how much faster I could go (where I live 2MB being the limit) if it's over £20 I'm not interested. For general day to day web browsing and e-mail use you simply don't need faster than 512Kbps.
In my local city only 15 minutes drive away you can get 22MB NOW and some parts of the UK 24MB but most it's 2MB and some 8MB.
Actually that's not true. VOIP only needs about 6% of a 2MB line.which require fast upload speeds (which Telescum have limited to 128k)
p.s - Good idea but I really doubt a 256Kbps connection would be a problem for the signatures you cite. I thought you were going to say you were on dial-up.

the honest answer is i can't figure out a simple way myself and cannot find a mod which adds the option, but if anyone can point me towards one i will look at making such an option available.
as for the whole new larger avatars and peoples sudden discovery of large annoying signatures, personally I don't care for them, but as we know fom the many debates my view rarely matches anyone elses (often on the entire planet
) so we go for majority rule mixed in with a bit of 'who cares the most' damage limitation.

Pointless huge graphic signatures are destroying my forum life!
Or rather, I end up adblocking them all the time, and sooner or later I've adblocked a server which I then wanted to watch. So it's annoying. Luckily not so much of a problem HERE as on some other boards, but when people write 1 line of text and then fills up hundreds of pixels with banners and crap in their signature I get kinda pissed. (Yeah, like thelostdragon! And that's really just a small banner! But imagine if everyone on this thread had a similar or larger banner?)

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Here we go with this debate again!
Okay, who's first to threaten to leave Bullets if there aren't some restrictions placed on the size of sigs?

Romero's full titty screen MUST GO or else I GO!
Okay, no. I don't mean that. Of course not. But I thought I'd be the first to jump in and threaten to leave over sigs. It's been a long time since Bullets' harmony was disrupted over such an issue.

Any member using a sig that's bigger than 20 kb should be permanently banned and have his nuts removed by a rabid dog.
It's just annoying that it takes me several minutes to open a thread in which IronMonkey has posted something.

I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

I dunno. I could stand to see a little more...
To be honest, I'm actually of the opinion that the sigs are kind of unnecessary in a lot of cases. I used to have a Killer 7 image, which wasn't too large, but it started to annoy me after a bit. Plus, the fact that you have the same image repeated over and again does get a little dull. A little phrase or whatever, I find, is enough. You want to read the content of the message, not the see the image underneath it.

Right well seeing as how I'm disturbing absolutely everyone on this forum with my pictures, I'll remove them from here & enjoy them all by myself!
All by myself... all by myself? Oh my god I need a woman!

Don't think anybody's actually disturbed by the images, IronMonkey. I was kidding. It's the bandwidth and loading time that's an issue for some.
