How come Charlie Young looks lovely on the french disc and ugly on the Joy Sales ? Ah yes, low bitrate.
Note that the contrast levels are slightly boosted on the french disc.

Overall I'd say the HK Vidéo is better, but not by much.
The difference will only be visible on High-end hardware (where the compression problems will become more obvious).
Note: There's a german DVD with a different print out there. It suffers from contrast boosting and lots of edge-enhancement, but it's an improvement over the Joy Sales disc:
