Hiroyuki Sanada & RUSH HOUR 3

While the addition of Jean-Claude Van Damme to the cast list of RUSH HOUR 3 is still just a rumor, another famed martial arts movie actor has been confirmed. Hiroyuki Sanada is set to play “one of the villains,” leaving the possibility of other high-profile genre talents being included.

Aimed at an August 2007 release, RUSH HOUR 3 will see stars Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker re-teaming for a third round of mouthy martial arts mayhem with Brett Ratner once again at the helm. Film is set in Paris. No plot details have been revealed, as if anyone needed them.

To younger audiences here in the U.S. Sanada may only be known as that guy who taught Tom Cruise how to wield a katana in THE LAST SAMURAI. That only scratches the surface of a distinguished film career that has seen him rise from the ranks of Sonny Chiba’s Japan Action Club in a series of period martial arts movies to become one of Japan’s hottest stars.

Sanada recently starred in several high-profile films including the modern naval thriller AEGIS (2005) and Chen Kaige’s fantasy actioner THE PROMISE (2005). Genre fans may know him best from his martial arts starring roles in NINJA IN THE DRAGON’S DEN (1982), LEGEND OF THE EIGHT SAMURAI (1983) and THE TWILIGHT SAMURAI (2003).

Max Von Sydow and Roman Polanski are also on the cast list for RUSH HOUR 3.

Van Damme and Sanada?

This might just turn out alright....

If Tucker keeps quiet and Ratner doesn't screw-up.

He'd rather be in another DTV video movie obviously.

It was just a rumour that he's on board. Ratner talked about the idea and that he liked it. I'm sure producers had a different idea.

I'm confident it will be fun, the last two were. They're the best Jackie American flicks.

Tucker is good in his role. I've no complaints.

p.s - Phew JCVD is off but then would Jackie let him possibly upstage him. Hmmm not sure.
