Deer Hunter: 2 Disc SE (Optimum) - IMPROVED Transfer

Post by bradavon »

See here: http://www.compare.dvdbeaver.com/film/D ... hunter.htm

The UK 2006 Optimum 2 Disc SE has the exact same extras from the UK 2003 Studio Canal 2 Disc SE but an improved transfers and a new DD5.1 soundtrack (as well as the DD2.0 found on the 2003 Warner).

The R1 by WB has minimal extras that could've easily fitted on the first disc, it has a different inferior cinematographer commentary.

Get the NEW SE!

Personally I thought it was overrated and dull in places (really the only good bit is the Russian Roulette scene).

No, the R1 SE is put by Universal. You fail; go directly to jail, do not pass go and do not collect $200.

Oh my God, I'm actually agreeing with you on something! :P
The film bored the arse off me, especially the wedding sequence at the start.

Oh man that's dull. An ENTIRE hour passes before anything actually happens.

The director on the commentary says this was needed so we care of the characters. Well it didn't work, a better director could've made us care for the characters in half the time.

I lied btw that scene + the one in Vietnam near the end are good (hardly a spoiler), bar that's is uber dull.

p.s - We've agreed before

The R1 is really baffling, it was released simultaneously as the "Legacy" edition of To Kill a Mocking Bird which had a fucking DTS track. A 40+ year old courtroom drama in mono is given 5.1 treatment but a stereo war film which which is actually suited to 5.1 remixing isn't? What Universal were smoking at the time is beyond me.
