Cat O' Nine Tails

Post by Markgway »

Is this worth checking out... and what's the best DVD incarnation?

Preference being English mono without subtitles.

Is the Anchor Bay up to snuff?

How about the Dutch Filmworks release?

(The Dutch A1 DVD of Tenebre is the best out there.)

Not in the same league as Bird With the Crystal Plumage or Deep Red, but if you like Argento's giallo films then you should like it. According to this review there's not a lot between the Anchor Bay & Italian discs, but it sounds like the Italian disc isn't particularly great, so the Anchor Bay should be the way to go.

Never seen it, so seemed like it was worth trying for a couple of quid.

Just be sure to not get a release which only has 5.1 remixes. Anchor Bay makes the horrendous 5.1 remixes known to man, one's which would make early HK DVD producers have a chuckle at their ineptness. ABUS ones are a bit better than ABUK ones, but they still suck massive cock.

AB's 2.0 surround remixes are pretty much mono anyway.

I checked and the ABE release has a 2.0 track.

Shouldn't be too bad hopefully.

Their Suspiria release is arsed up 5.1 though.

I'd like to see an improved version.
