hey all,
I've been in conversation with ColinP from over at dvdforums about his recent request for help in searching for the old content. For those of you that havent been able to pop by the dvdforums heres a rundown of whats been happening -
ColinP has started up http://67.18.237.9/index.php as a central point for trying to collect the old content, be it from archives or even better from the original reviewers if they can be tracked down.
Now how does this lie with this forum and the soon to be new site with forum when Toge gets the chance? Well thats what I've been discussing with ColinP, my initial fear being that we were going to end up with 2 bnb sites, both weaker as communities because of the divide in user base.
Turns out ColinP and I share the wish to see as much of BnB restored as possible, whether it be here or on his site or anywhere as long as it existed. He has little interest in actually running bnb, he merely wishes to aid in the speedy recovery of as much of the old content is possible.
What has been suggested as a result of our discussions was the idea that he would continue his site as a central point for collecting all the old content we can all collectively get hold of. This site would continue as planned with Toge at the helm rebuilding BnB itself. That way BnB the community can carry on undistracted by the process of gathering old content, which ColinP with his resources as admin of dvdforums and contact with Jenz can get on with at a much faster pace than we could by ourselves.
so anyone thats actualy managed to read through the entire mini essay... what do you think... good plan??
m.

Thanks Grim for the cryptic response
Toge? Bradavon? Memetic? Anyone else??
on a side note the original domain is alas gone, as predicted a domain grabber went for it, got it (it became available to renew it seems just after midnight GMT time, and had been snapped up by 6am when I first checked)and now has a portal sitting on it. I have contacted them to see if they would be willing to hand it over, though given the manner of the business I would'nt hold out much hope unless the person is particularly agreeable

Just go to the web archive of it. It has content up to Feb 8, 2004 (old Bullets) - so no content after that date. The forum's at:
http://web.archive.org/web/200402280803 ... file=index
The Reviews are at:
http://web.archive.org/web/200402280807 ... file=index
The links may take a while to load but it's all there.

When I go to that address, it still says the domain is for sale, with a box saying "Make An Offer".
The page just looks like a search engine.

Memetic how on earth did you find those links? Why on earth are they there?
I post at both and would love Bullets to be back how it was but I don't believe this is going to happen. What with a lot of old Bullets members have an issue with this site/Toge etc . . .
Many I hear are now posting on Megatron's THIRD forum!
As important what do you think Toge? This is your site (with Mordib's help of course).

I never knew Jenz's backup was corrupt
OMG that site (archive.org) is wicked Memetic, wow!
Personally the only review I'd really, really like to keep is this one (i.e - the CTHD one):
http://web.archive.org/web/200303301741 ... cle&sid=91

It's worth noting the Asian forum on the archive Memetic found only goes to page 10. Any further and it says it's not archived. I imagine the other forums are about the same.

He's hardly like to post it here but has DVD Forums. I recommend trying a Wanadoo account Romero so you can register. It may work.

Ok, I didn't want to post here again cause I know I'm not welcome, but can I just reiterrate the fact that my site does not have anything do with the 'original bnb'! nor do I want it to become what it has become, hence not mentioning it here romero. If people that were bnb members want to join my site they are more than welcome. I am not going to ban them just cause a few here are being over sensitive with 'THEIR' members now am I.
The main reason for my site was a simple design project so I don't understand it being labeled the Third Forum jeez...

You're welcome Megatron, well you are in my opinion (for what it's worth).
The IP Address in Mordib's post further up now has a proper url:
https://www.bulletsnbabesdvds.net/
aka - The Bullets n Babes DVD Restoration Project!
The CTHD comparison was uploaded by yours truly; Colin e-mailed me how to do it so I thought why not.

The Web Archive or otherwise known as the Internet Wayback Machine makes semi-frequent backups of every site on the web that has its own domain name - since 1996. Generally all the links work but some images may not be saved. It's a great way to visit sites again that don't exist anymore or to visit an old version of a site (eg. you can even check out first revision Google on it).

WOW so it must take up a gigantic amount of memory! millions of gigs surley?
Just a minor correction you mean disk space; it probably takes lots of memory to but not terabytes worth.
A terabyte FYI is roughly 1000 gigabytes or is it 1000 1000 gigabytes. I can't quite remember.
People often incorrectly say memory when they mean disk space. Flash cards and MP3 Players etc... are the exception to the rule as they use a form of memory (permanent unlike computer memory).

and why isnt it all the site from all time? why not newer posts?
I imagine it takes lots of work to maintain.
