Careful... you don't wanna get Mordib into trouble. This sort of thing isn't really allowed (afaik).

why? lol its my own film and my own dvd...

what happened was that i asked to have it put on the disc as AVI, but my teacher didnt listen and put it as a "proper" dvd.

unless its illegal to rip a copy of my own film, that i created, edited, filmed etc etc.

Interesting but irrelavant.

The fact is, by publicly providing you with information on how to rip a DVD, it allows others to do the same but create illegal copies of their own.

Mordib could lose his rights to host this forum. Again you might want to clear this with him first.

Until then, keep this out of sight on a public forum.

With a sharp knife :D

Seriously I think we can allow this as long as it's a generic discussion and no more. The point is the software is legally available, plus most won't touch copy protected software (of which obviously isn't allowed to be mentioned).

Taking the assumption the DVD Shen is referring to has no copy protection (if it's school made it won't) we will continue.

To convert a DVD to AVI is an uber pain and takes ages forget it. Exept for WinAVI Video Convertor can do this, it's easy enough with that. As that I believe won't touch encrypted content we can mention it.

To copy a DVD with just your movie (this btw will still leave the menus intact) you can use:

1. Nero Recode
2. Elby CloneDVD
3. Loads of others - It's a common thing to do

If you want to author your own DVD (i.e - add menus) instead of just removing the extra content then "TMPGEnc DVD Author" I hear is decent. That too won't touch encrypted content either.

There is free software (some very popular) but they also happen to bypass DVD encryption so I won't be mentioning their names.

Start off by looking at www.doom9.org. Bullets n Babes DVD do not condone what content is on that site and you use it at your own risk.

p.s - Why bother btw? Just ignore the rest.

thanks guys

@brad...

why bother?

as you can see i wanted to upload it on the internet, seeing as the rest arent my films, but other class mates, that would be unfair and not my job. so i needed to seperate my film off..

@ Lourdes / Yi-Long: Come on guys I specifically said no software that breaks copyright and what do you guys do post the very software we shouldn't be posting.

I understand your reasoning Yi-Long but that wouldn't wash in court and could get this site closed down, you're intelligent enough to know that.

@ Shen: Fair enough then.

See Shen, this is why discussing this topic is a bad idea... besides, I refer you to the rules which Tom himself wrote here:

(read no. 4).

dont be such a condescending person...

yup i know full well why this is a bad idea, however as i previously stated its easier than PMing every person in this forum asking the same question, taking a load of time and just pissing me and others off in the process...this way i only annoy you ;) and as i said they could just as easily PM with an answer as Eva kindly did.

I just named the program I used, which is free to download for everyone I believe.
I said what I used it for at the moment, which in Holland also isnt illegal, especially since there is no legal good alternative.

So I dont quite get the fuss. I also seriously doubt anyone would take BNB to court over something one of it's users says...

If I say you can use a knife to stab someone, does that make me quilty of inciting a murder?

Ah well... I know no-one wants to get into an argument over this, so let's just drop it... ;)

I certainly wasn't trying to be. Sorry if I came across that way.

I didn't ask you to pm every person but isn't it common sense to pm the ones you speak to regularly? I could probably count the total number of active posters on two hands. It's not all that difficult...

Nah, I am just bemused as to how you could not admit that you did something wrong. You keep using the same excuse ("I can't be arsed pming everyone"). Anyways it's not a big deal - you've achieved what you wanted and that's the main thing.

With respect Yi-long you're intelligent enough to know exactly what the fuss is.

For starters the website is hosted AFAIK in the UK and is at least owned by someone British so British law primarily needs to be considered which clearly states breaking copyrighted is an illegal offence and can result in jail time.

Mordib too has been very clear about the one rule he will absolutely not tolerate. I think it only fair we respect him on this.

As for the software being free to download you're very much mistaken. The author of the software you cited has got into lots of trouble for it's creation, has been forced to stop development and has since taken it offline. Yes I'm well aware it can still be downloaded but that doesn't negate the fact it allows you to remove copy protection from commercial DVDs and the author of the software no longer develops it.
Yi-Long wrote:I also seriously doubt anyone would take BNB to court over something one of it's users says...
Obviously but that is entirely not the point, which you're well know.

Please don't post links or names of software that allows you to break the law. It's not acceptable to post links for example on making a bomb (in the extreme), this is no different.
Yi-Long wrote:If I say you can use a knife to stab someone, does that make me quilty of inciting a murder?
No but a link how best to murder someone would be (not allowed).

I feel Mordib, Tom and I have been very clear. It's perfectly acceptable to debate software copy protection and your views on it, it's perfectly acceptable to debate that murder is acceptable (if you so wish) but it's not acceptable to discuss software or links on how to do this.

Obviously there are grey areas (I myself have been caught out in the past) but just because you happen to disagree that software A is illegal it doesn't negate the fact it is. You're also well aware your argument that it's not commercially available so must be okay would not hold up in court.

I realise you deliberately posted the name of the software to stir things up but we ask you on this subject to please refrain from doing it again.

I was hoping by allowing discussion of certain software members would have the common sense not to mention other software that clearly is not allowed (I know for the most part members are).

Generally speaking it's nice that Tom and I barely moderate this forum any more (most of Tom's time is spent deleting spam accounts :D ) I'd like that to remain.

Thank you
