WOW, flipping amazing wow. Nice one, cheers.

I'll hold off for the BD though but still wow. Good to see Mono there. The 5.1 "may" work (the film does have an awesome soundtrack) but it's certainly risky.

Interestingly there is already a HD-DVD, but it's virtually bare-bones so definitely worth waiting for the BD:

p.s - Who has the R1 rights? The current DVD is so old it was released by Polygram.

An MGM film. So it's owned by Sony and handled by Fox.

Thanks

"Fox is the best that ever happened to MGM on DVD - Sony a decent too". It's a shame no one has bought out Paramount.

No, not Sony. After Sony bought MGM they did nothing but sit on the library and did bugger all except re-release DVDs of more recent films. MGM were doing a better job on their own, they may've been releasing crappy interlaced non-anamorphic DVDs, but at least they were getting shit from all eras of upon the shelves unlike Sony. Fox is doing justice to the back catalogue, but if Warner's bid had been successful we'd be in an even better position. If the MGM catalogue was in Warner's hands we'd have dozens of remastered catalogue titles released and not just the high profile titles like The Graduate and Robocop.
It's a shame no one has bought out Paramount.
Paramount is fine. They've almost always given us consistently good anamorphic transfers and restored mono tracks, just that they've neglected the extras department. Extras are trivial compared to good transfers and audio.

On the plus side Fox support DTS. There's no excuse not to give us decent AV and extras, just like Fox, Sony and WB do. IMO Paramount are "the" worst of the big boys.
