Brandon Lee-15 years on

Post by saltysam »

Brandon Lee has been dead 15 years this week.Do you guys think he'd have made it as a big star or faded into b movie obscurity?

I reckon that The Crow would've flopped and he'd either:-
A. Be stuck in DTV action land to this day.
B. Carved himself out a niche as a character actor in support roles.
C. Wound up on a successful TV series.

I reckon A and B from Eva's list but reckon The Crow would've still been a niche successor, maybe not so much though.

I dont know how his career would have been, but although I'm not a fan of his movies, he DID have alot of charisma on-screen, so he could have had a nice career.

But you just never know, man. Look at Mark Dacascos, who's an extremely talented martial artist and an OK actor (for actionroles), and he never really broke through either.

Today is also the day Leslie Cheung died 5 years ago...

I think The Crow would've been a success and he'd have gone on to make a less successful sequel, eventually falling into tv land.

Spoken like someone who doesn't understand the first thing about depression!

I agree with Salty, those of us old enough to remember should recall that The Crow already had some buzz around it before Brandon was sadly killed, and they didn't rush-release it afterwards either, so I think ultimately his death played a not-so-great part in that film's box office.

If Brandon couldn't break away from the "martial artist" stigma then he would have been back to DTV films or TV production within a couple of years after The Crow.

Ahh I remember sitting in the cinema watching The Crow and it was packed out (very rare for a wednsday aftenoon, cheap day) and I liked the film but everyone else loved it. Have not seen it for ages.

Still god only knows what wopuld have happened to Brandon, I would say the same route he was on, no big star and probibly straight to VHS films at after a while.

All I can remember is Rapid Fire, great little action film that really showcased him, more so than any other film he made I felt he was the star of it and it really worked.

The Crow is an all time favourite of mine, Showdown in little Tokyo and Rapid Fire were both really enjoyable at the time. He was a decent actor and a decent screen fighter but would probobly have faded into obscurity off the back of the milking of The Crow franchise for all that its worth. :)

Showdown In Little Tokyo was pretty embarassing, wasting its leads in a slow moving, racially biased heap of junk.

these days, its good fun!

I dunno... I think The Crow would've done well and made Brandon a serious contender in the action movies stakes. As Shingster says: There was a lot of hype pre-release, even when the film was still being shot, and Brandon was alive. They waited over a year to release the finished version.
