Question Nightmare on Elm Street: downmixes and cuts

Post by hanshotfirst1138 »

Just a quick question regarding the release of the first film. I've heard some controversy in a couple of review I read surrounding the various releases, particularly involving a 5.1 downmix on the so-called "Infinifilm" edition, masquerading as the original mono track (which I should have checked on before I bought it :banghead: ). Did the original track ever hit DVD, or did it disappear after the VHS releases dropped out of print? I guess, shame upon New Line, the same downmix appeared on their BR release. In addition, there was apparently a very brief cut to some of the violence to obtain an R-rating, though I'm not entirely certain the so-called "uncut" version ever got an official release. A quick Google search has turned up some conflicting reports, just curious what the whole story was. I am hearing that the first DVD release (which I could happily just buy for a very small price) has the very brief cut scene, but I'm not sure if that's true or about the soundtrack (apparently there was also a special edition of some sort on laserdisc that I knew nothing about)Just a quick question regarding the release of the first film.

The original mono track is on the Blu Ray. From what I've read it's different to the downmix that appeared on the Infinifilm DVD. The mono track was also present on the single disc R1 DVD (but not the international releases). All DVD and BD versions contain the same R-rated cut. If you want the X-rated cut you'll have to buy a UK VHS tape.

The original mono is also slightly out of sync in places on the BD. In fact, so is the remix track, but meh.

Must've been minor as I really don't recall noticing any sync issues.
