Hey,
I'd like to see if I can transfer my old VHS tapes (there are some TV broadcasts and other old stuff) to DVD but not sure exactly what to get - I have so many of them, I figured buying something like a combined a VHS/DVD recorder was the cheapest way Or just a DVD recorder and connecting it to my VHS player. I'd like to save space as well (going to be moving soon)
How could I transfer recordings from my Freesat box to DVD?
Thanks guys
You've asked this question so many times. I've told you at least twice.
If you plan to re-watch the videos lots (then a VHS/DVD Recorder has some logic) either get a cheap DVD Recorder (but then you've already got a decent DVD Player, so won't use it much afterwards) or Hard Disk/DVD Recorder Combi. They cost more but will make transferring much easier.
The way to transfer VHS to DVD is the same as Freesat to DVD. Stick a Scart in the back of both, press Record on one and Play on the other. That's all there is too it.
But again do you have so much on your Freesat box you really must keep? I've got loads on my Freeview+ I could just ditch if need be. There's only so much TV content you can keep. Will you ever watch it again?
You're right in that I'm not going to transfer all of it from the HDD (as you say loads of it I could ditch). There's something called "Paul Merton's Birth of Hollywood" I'd like to keep though.
I have a Daewoo dvd/vhs combi that allows you to copy most tapes to a DVD disc. It wouldn't copy my 1990 tape of Fantasia, so that must have had some fancy copy protection on it.

That would be encrypted with macrovision then. It's an analogue copy protection system. Sky use it too on their PPV content or certainly at least used to. You can buy scart cables that have a particular wire twisted which prevents macrovision from working. I use to use one for copying DVDs to VHS (before HDD and DVD Recorders took off).
@ Grim: Remember any DVD Player won't be multi-region unless it says so first. Check out Multi-region magic for HDD/DVD Recorder combis.
If it's only one thing you want to keep though, buy a dirt cheap DVD Recorder and plug it into your existing VHS Recorder. That'll be by far your cheapest option. I'd get a HDD/DVD Recorder combi and plug it into the same VHS Recorder but it's not worth it if we're only talking 1-2 things.
I think I want to keep quite a few things, certainly more than 1 or 2 anyway, maybe that Panasonic is a good option then.
As for whether its multi region, it doesnt matter much TBH as I've still got my BD player (which I want to keep)
Not sure I should run the risk of copying retail videos
pathetic thread.you can download virtually anything from the net these days and convert it to disc.I have a toshiba vhs/dvd combi and haven't used it in years as a recording device. As for Grim's "retail videos" comment it's 2012 mate
