Your worst male and female singers

Post by Markgway »

For me I'd go with.

Justin Timberlake and Beyonce Knowles.

Both of whom are fucking atrocious.

I second Justin Timberlake. I'll think of some more later.

Pretty much any hip & hop singers (it's debatable whether they're artists). They're mostly all full of air and fake.

You know the sort of celebrity who has completely lost all connection with reality, their songs are atrocious also.

Ja Rule, Ludicrous, Snoop Doggy Doggy, Missy Elliot, Usher - Okay I can just about stand him. Bar Usher (his real name) why do they all insist in having stupid names?

Why do all the male hip hop singers degrade women so much? Some of their lyrics and actions are dreadful, far more than most porn IMO (excluding Gonzo porn of course)!

Yeah, agree totally. I hate the genre. Full of talentless thugs.

Because their culture is misogynistic.

A question: Why is it called R&B when black people sing it but pop when white people sing it?

Take "Destiny's Child" they sing pop IMO. Mary J. Blige on the other hand is R&B.
Because their culture is misogynistic.
I wonder where it stems from. Slavery maybe? Just a wild guess.
Trust you to bring up porn!! :D
Thanks I'll take that as a compliment :D

Now I object... when have Destiny's Child ever SUNG?? They've wailed horribly, like strangled cats, but ''sung''? Never.

Very wild (and very silly).

Interesting. The term R&B (Rhythm and Blues - sp?) came about because someone tried to find a more acceptable word for what was branded "race music" in black America of the 40's/early 50's. This crossed over and eventually turned into rock and roll.
I watched a programme on Saturday.

Its funny what its become now. The likes of Joe Turner and Fats Domino must be turning in their graves, where is the blues in this horrible watered down bling-nonsense that passes for R&B today?

Care to give a better answer?
Nope. Because I don't have one. But since not one single hip-hopper was alive at the time of slavery I think we can safely discount that theory.

Steve (X factor) is poor IMO, his voice is average and he looks like he's just come to fix somebody's roof :D

Timberlake - Mordib you may be right, also I dont like the fact he's ripped off Michael Jackson recently on a few songs  (Rock your Body etc)

I know what you meant... but the idea that black males (and I was actually referring to hip-hop culture not black culture - whatever that is?) are a bunch of misogynist, profane-spouting, blinging, cap-poppin' ill-educated gangstaz, because of a lineage in slavery is of course absolute nonsense. This hip-hop culture is an urban American invention of the last 25 years. To say otherwise is an offence to the hard-working, intelligent black men who fought for their rights to be equal. Did Martin Luther King rap about bitches and hos? I thought not.

BTW, the person who coined the term R&B was Jerry Wexler, a Billboard Magazine reporter, in the late 1940's.

Joe Turner was the original artist of Shake, Rattle and Roll (later covered in a cleaned up/watered down version by Bill Haley).
Still, he is significant himself. His Rock Around The Clock is one of the most important Rockn'Roll records of all time.

Hey,

This page compares the original (Big Joe Turner) with the version done by Bill Haley and His Comets (with rewritten lyrics):
