A Windows Error Nobody Can Fix!!! LOOOL!!!

Post by thelostdragon »

LOOOOL!!! Check out the email I got:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DID U KNOW THIS………

An Indian discovered that nobody can create a folder anywhere named
As "con"

This is something pretty cool...and unbelievable... At Microsoft the
Whole Team, including Bill Gates, couldn't answer why this happened!

Try it out yourself.

I know! Isn't that... I mean, ok, this piece of information is just as useless as the eggs of an eunuch, but it's funny as hell.

LOL !

Since "con" means "jerk" in french, I always believed it was some kind of automatic censorship on the french edition of Windows XP. :D
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Actually you can't call a folder "PRN" either.
CON and PRN are DOS commands. That's why they can't be used in Windows.

But going by that logic, I wouldn't be able to call a folder 'dir'.

True, but it's been a while since I've given up on DOS.
I've kinda forgotten how that stuff works.

AUX doesn't work either.
Neither do NUL, LPT1, COM1...

Allegedly :
"
STEP1: goto command prompt

STEP2: type in prompt e:\> "mkdir \\.\e:\con"

STEP3: verify by typing "dir \\.\e:\con"

STEP4: delete the file or folder "rmdir \\.\e:\con"

"

Well, it's not because they are "dos commands" but because they are/were dos "devices"... I guess MS thought better safe than sorry when migrating it's way up to Win XP...
So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Gojensen is right. DIR is a command not a device.

That's flipping quality though.

'mkdir' is better known as 'md' and 'rmdir' as 'rd' btw.

What do the:

\\.\

Mean in the syntax? I've not come across those before.

I wonder if you can call a folder con with pre Windows XP or better yet Windows 95? :D

p.s - You need to substitute e: with c: for most people.

29 Hours!

Oh that's how long it took for someone to crack this :D

Not quite as good as the 24 hours it took for someone to break Microsoft's recent "Genuine Windows Activation" bollocks. That made me chuckle.
