Die Hard 4.0 (aka - Live Free or Die Hard)

Post by Markgway »

Looks like this is gonna be a watered down PG-13(!)

"The PG-13 thing seems to rankle Willis. (Although ironically, he says he was offered the Mel Gibson part in Lethal Weapon before the first Die Hard and turned it down, because his girlfriend at the time thought the script was too violent.) He tried to push Live Free or Die Hard down the R highway, but apparently the days when a star as big as he is could call the shots are over. "No one has that power," says Willis. "There is a much more powerful guy in Hollywood, and his name is Rupert Murdoch. It's his corporation. I only work there. I never did get a satisfactory answer on [the rating question]. It does make it a little more difficult. They don't want to see a lot of blood squirting out of bad guys. you can still do a lot of horrific things--you just can't say the word 'fuck' more than twice." That is a problem, especially since "Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker" is McClane's signature line. "Saying 'fuck' every other sentence is part of the vernacular of Die Hard," Willis insists. But even he seems resigned to the inevitability of PG-13. "That's the studio decision, one that is becoming more and more common, because they're trying to reach a broader audience. It seems almost a courageous move to give a picture an R rating these days." Despite the new movie's being "fuck" challenged, "we still made a pretty hard-core, smashmouth film," says Willis. "I really wanted this one to live up to the promise of the first one, which I always thought was the only really good one.""

Gay. They should've made an R-rated film anyway and released a toned down version theatrically. Voila Unrated Edition, and we know Fox loves to double-dip.

I wouldn't have seen this at the theatres anyway, being a movie from the DIRECTOR OF UNDERWORLD and all.

No Grim, it doesnt mean that. Its up to the BBFC. Sometimes they give it a 12a, some a 15, some an 18. Its up the mighty BBFC and there small minded brains. But its more likley to be 15, unless its got lots of headbutting in it then it will get an 18, or they wil cut it out and give it a 15 or 12a knowing then shits.

and they made a HARD R film, we will probibly get it on dvd, just a shame they cut it to FUCK! sad bastcrds.

An unrated DVD of a movie that was made with PG-13 in mind would still be totally gay. Like the "Unrated" version of Alien Vs Predator, same fucking shit movie with readded deleted scenes and more CGI blood.

It was not made with PG13 in mind, it was made R rated in the first place according to everything I read over the last 6 months). They have only recently cut it to PG13.

They said all along it was violent and full of swearing, only now have they went and fucked the bunny and cut it down for children and morons.

I believe this whole PG-13 furore started when AICN leaked an interview in Vanity Fair with Willis, here's a quote directly from the Vanity Fair article:
In an upcoming interview in Vanity Fair, Bruce Willis expressed initial disappointment that his fourth "Die Hard" film will likely be cut to get a PG-13 rating rather than the usual R for the rest of the series.

"I really wanted this one to live up to the promise of the first one, which I always thought was the only really good one" said Willis.

So why cut it? "That's a studio decision that is becoming more and more common, because they're trying to reach a broader audience. It seems almost a courageous move to give a picture an R rating these days. But we still made a pretty hardcore, smashmouth film."
Not definitive proof, but still Eva, you fail!

The ratings are confirmed:

PG-13 in the USA and '15' in the UK.

Contains frequent action violence and one use of strong language.

At least it's not a 12A, but it appears we get the same cut version as the Americans. Roll on an Unrated DVD, assuming the film doesn't suck, that is.

You've seen it?

If it's a 12 in Germany it can't be THAT violent.
