The danger with CGI blood, is that the files can be tweaked to satisfy the studio and the MPAA endlessly. You could even get bloodless TV/plane versions. Whereas a movie shot with real fake blood (sorry about that), either have to be cut, or pass thru the ratings.

I don't know which one is worse.

Well there is always live footage that they Blur or mask with CGI now, that goes on a lot latley as well. A little photoshop work and bobs your uncle your Hardcore R rated film is now a PG13

or even better turn that blood green and your Zombie film is now less threatning

Note that in part 3, the "I hate niggers" board worn by Willis, becomes "I hate everyone" on TV and planes. They only shot it with "I hate" written on the board, "niggers" was CGI added later.

The reason is that it might have been a bit hot to shoot in Harlem with the complete slogan + they didn't want the press to reveal the whole shebang out of the movie context.

Just shows that CGI is a dangerous thing for creators freedom. You can change the whole sense of a scene, without editing out one shot.

That was for the good of the crew shooting the film really, I could imagine people rioting if they saw some idiot walking about with a board with "I hate niggers"

people would be tossing bottles at the crew I am sure, film or no film.

Just saw this today at the flicks.

Pretty good stuff. Lots of bang for your buck as they say. Not the classic the original was - but you knew that. It was entertaining and action-packed for over 2hrs with some great stunts. I can't complain.

I did notice that some of swearing had been overdubbed with milder alternatives (you can see the lip sync go out in a number of places) but I didn't spot any obvious violence cuts. It's probably the toughest PG-13 I've seen (moreso than Casino Royale) and deserved its '15'.

EDIT: Forgot to mention: Bruce Willis is pretty awesome here. He's clearly loving being back in his most famous role. Role on DH5.1

He eems to be saying part 5 is coming as hell he knows this film will make cash, unlike most his other films latley. Get John Woo for part 5 I say

Hmm I saw the trailer earlier and it looked way to glossy, at the end of DH Bruce was covered in grime, dirt and didn't have that "White teeth" syndrome.

Still I will be seeing it, give it my best shot.

It's not done as well in the US as it should have with the PG-13.

Beaten to the No.1 spot by an animated rat.

I hope it has some legs and doesn't drop like a stone in week 2.

Yeah, but in fairness it is Pixars latest, Die Hard never stood a chance. Serves the studios right that 4.0 has underperformed - if that is the case, $33million sounds bleedin good to me.

I doubt the average filmgoer knows that name. It's just that these animated films always do well with the kiddies. I'm sure it's good fun, but against fucking Die Hard man??

And really any Die Hard movie should've taken $60m+ regardless of the comp when you consider the supposedly shity sequels that take over $100m (Spider-Man 3, Shrek 3, Pirates 3) on a regular basis.

Compare Rotten Tomatoes stats and IMDB weekend box office openings:

Die Hard 4 = Critics: 77% Users = 93% ($33.4m; $48.4m inc. Wed-Thurs)
Spider 3 = Critics: 61% Users = 63% ($151,116,516)
Pirates 3 = Critics: 46% Users = 75% ($139,802,190)
Shrek 3 = Critics: 42% Users = 52% ($121,629,270)
