Bad Santa: Director's Cut

Post by grim_tales »

Davisdvd.com is reporting Buena Vista will release a Director's Cut of Bad santa in October.

I know what you're thinking - wasnt there already a "Badder Santa"? So the unrated R1 wasn't the Director's Cut. Classic. :lol:

It is said to feature a new transfer and commentary though.

So will there be three cuts in total?

Bad Santa: Theatrical
Badder Santa: Extended
Bad Santa: Director's Cut

I've only seen Badder Santa: Extended, which I thought was superb. However I hear that it is not as the director originally intended, and is more of a marketting strategy by the studio. I don't own a copy of this film so may be interested in this new edition, depending on what the new cut is like...

The spec. is up.

A shorter runtime probably just means cuts but it may not Zwigoff could've removed, added and altered footage:

10th October

"The director’s cut clocks in at 88 minutes, 3 minutes shorter than the theatrical cut and a whole 10 minutes shorter than the “Badder Santa” extended cut released on DVD almost three years ago. Features on this release include:

* 1.85:1 Anamorphic Widescreen
* English DD5.1 Surround
* Spanish audio
* New Audio Commentary Track With Director Terry Zwigoff And Editor Robert Hoffman
* Deleted and Alternate Scenes
* Behind the Scenes Special: Not Your Typical Christmas Movie
* Badder Santa Gag Reel"

Comments from a DVD Times member:

"Apparently the missing three minutes are some scenes with John Ritter's character. This 88-minute version is the one that Zwigoff delivered, only to be told that it was too short."

Fair enough. I saw this movie in theatres and loved it, will buy this DC as I haven't bought any existing release. Looks like all the other scenes will be included as extras anyway, so hopefully we're losing nothing.

I enjoyed Ghost World as well, Zwigoff's previous movie. Also am looking forward to Art School Confidential, his new film which is also an adaptation of a comic from the same author as Ghost World.

I liked Bad Santa, but no way I am gonna buy a shorter version!

I would much rather have a special edition of Ghost World, that film really deserves a new dvd.

Agreed Ghost World is very good.

The R1 is decent enough but the Dutch R2 has English DTS. I got the R1 for peanuts from DVD Soon yonks ago as the Dutch R2 like most Dutch DVDs was far to much.

Eva: You may want to pick up the Extended Cut most seem to think it's better than the Theatrical Cut and the Director's Cut will be shorter again.

Using dialects in written form just looks retarded.

I don't speak Scottish English either :D . I'll try and translate:

"'I'll pass Jeeves. I'll buy Badder Santa instead. Time for a cup of tea"

p.s - I wouldn't say retarded though it made me smile.
